Why did 343 not include callout tags??????

Callout tags, as seen in halo reach below (above maybe?) the motion sensor, told you where on the map you are, and skillful players would memorize them and apply them to game play, to tell teammates where the enemies are at and give them a good name to use as a reference point. These need to be reinserted into the game. The more I think about it, the more 343 has discouraged teamwork in Halo 4.

Three problems with those things:

  1. Too long to pronounce in game; By the time you said the name, it was usually too late.
  2. Usually unrelated to the actual point itself, making them hard for your team to recognise. For example, in Halo 3 we had callouts like “Sword room”, and everyone knew that by that we meant the room where the sword spawns. If I was on boardwalk and said “Make-out point” the team would probably have no idea what I meant.
  3. Hard to memorise, because of the above point.

Because of this, most people just used the more widely recognised callouts the community itself invented. I don’t think anyone’s come up with names yet for the Halo 4 callouts, but you can expect a thread on here when someone has.
