Why did 343 make multiplayer canon?

This is something i have been wondering for a while now, and i think that it is the right time to ask. Personally, i dont see the significants in making multiplayer canon. Because 343 did this, they took away a few things that us fans enjoy about the game.

  1. The odd ball isn’t the good old skull that we have come to love over the years. It has been replaced by some kind of weird geometric solid, with a blue light inside.( dont have a link)

  2. We can no longer play as Elites. This is devastating to all of the people who make machinimas involving Spartans fighting Elites. Because 343 has dont this, we wont be able to create machinimas like this is in halo 4.

  1. Custom game infection is ruined. We can no longer play game types like fat kid, or cops and robbers, like we did in reach, just because of 343’s “amazing” idea to make all of the infected Spartans flood infected Spartans. We also cant play game types like "Get out of my house, and stuff like that.

So that is why i think 343 shouldn’t have made multiplayer canon. I am as exited for halo 4 as the next guy, but this is just something we will all have to live with until halo 5. On a side note, i think 343 should allow us to play as Elites in custom game. What do you guys think?

I prefer that when I’m playing, it sort of means something, like I’m part of that story now, I’m one of those Spartan IVs training onboard a huge UNSC ship.

It doesn’t mean much to some, but to those who love the story aspects hugely, it is great.

Have we actually been told that the Flood mode is flat out replacing the original Infection gametype?

I don’t recall it.

Simply to have a hand wave explanation to get rid of the elites… Oh and to attract the people who are easily impressed.

Do people REALLY think Elites were taken out only because of this?

They could have easily added in a canon reason that the UNSC and Covenant formed an alliance, that the interaction between the two would be strengthened and increased .That Elites would also join the Humans on the expedition of the Infinity to signify the peace. THAT would’ve made sense, even more sense than there NOT being a formal alliance in these past years.
But they didn’t, obviously they felt Elites wouldn’t fit in Halo 4’s MP.
Elites will return in Halo 5, with 343 finally getting to know how to integrate them.
And there definitely will be a canon explanation, similar to what I just said.

Tying together more of the Halo Universe together to give a better story is why. But it does have some devastating costs, such as no Elites. I won’t go into he Flood thing. And the Odd Ball personally looks better.

I have a feeling that the Infected will be able to be Spartans just like both teams in Invasion could be Spartans.

Elites were likely taken out because of hit collision issues. It’s not easy to compress the model of a 8 foot tall alien into the hitbox of a 7 foot tall human.

I assume in the “Flood” mode settings you can edit the zombies to have actual weapons and normal appearance etc etc so other gametypes can be made such as Minigame maps. Well I hope that’s the case anyway. xD

i343 did not decide that Multiplayer is “canon” and then make the content after that.

1: Aestethic change, doesn’t change how the game is played, and who knows, maybe we can change what we hold? Perhaps we can hold Footballs? American Footballs? Data cores (maybe that is what they’re holding), tires and so on.

2: “Canon” is not the reason why Elites are out. A new trilogy with a new main enemy and the focus on Spartans is the reason.

Machinima will survive because they still got Halo 3 and Reach.

3: Really? Player Models change how gametypes are played? Not the custom rules and maps made for them?

My Sarcasmometer is giving readings…

The Oddball is now a glowing skull.

  1. So? I expected you to post that link, and I’ve talked to Arby. It truly doesn’t matter - A good machinima director doesn’t need Elites to create good Machinima, and plus, we now have the Flood.

  2. Why not? Its just to change gametypes. Who said Flood can’t use other weapons?

Canon multiplayer makes it so much more interesting. And also, wouldn’t that cause much more good machinima’s? I mean, you can have Spartans V Spartans and detail their training.

Yes, because we haven’t seen enough of those stupid things. I chat with Arbiter 617 every once in a while. Most people know him for making Rise of the Spartans. I’ve been told he plans to switch over to Halo 4 and not continue with Spartan vs Elite machinima.

Seriously. People need to come up with more original concepts. Halo’s already done the Spartan vs Covenant and it’s fine the way it is without people trying to add junk to the canon.

We managed to get by just fine without Elites in Halo CE, in fact RoosterTeeth didn’t even need Elite models to become the most successful machinimators in the business…

We’ve had 3 Halos where just about every possible story of humans vs Covenant has been told, at least now we can focus on something new.
