Thank you for your support.
The new voice actor is not a bad person. However, considering the character of Master Chief, it seems out of place.
I don’t think so.
It’s because the new voice actors are far more popular than the old ones.
I guess he probably wanted to gain popularity through voice acting. (In reality, it was a failure.)
Ms. Koike’s performance is fantastic and one of the things I’m looking forward to in Halo Infinite.
I also would have liked to have had Master Chief back anyway.
Thank you for your words of support.
The reason we eliminated the original voice actors is because Halo 4 is the new Halo. 343 Industries decided that the old voice actors were not enough to portray the inner workings of Master Chief.
This is what 343 Industries audio director tojima had to say on Twitter.
After changing the voice actor, Mr. Tojima did not appear in the Japanese media and did not explain.
(At least some Japanese HALO fans think so)
The true Master Chief never returns in Japan.
That feels similar to the time they changed Snake’s voice actor in Metal Gear Solid 5. They got rid of David Hayter, who had done the voice since the original Metal Gear Solid, and replaced him with Kiefer Sutherland. The excuse given was that they needed somene who could do the facial motion capture for Venom Snake, I think Hideo Kojima just wanted an excuse to rub shoulders with a big Hollywood actor.
We couldn’t imagine replacing Steve Downs in the English Halo dub, just as Japanese fans probably couldn’t imagine replacing Akio Otsuka in the Japanese dub of Metal Gear, but outside of the country of origin the people in charge of dubbing don’t seem to care about keeping consistent voice actors.
For Atsuki Tani, who can perform perfectly with a low and solemn voice, the Master Chief is a true addictive role.

マスターチーフとコルタナの声優さんが新旧で混ざっているのは余計に違和感が目立つように感じられます。
契約の関係(4~6までの契約だったかもしれないとかコルタナの声優さんの休業含め)もあるのかとは思いますが…。
In HALO 4, we strongly direct the voice and
I made the current voice actor conscious of Mr. Tani’s acting.
However, in HALO5, the habit of the current voice actor has come out,
What is the voice of the Master Chief who is calm only in the part that has already been announced?
It is an image that is far away.
Steve Downs’ voice is cool and astringent
He has exactly the voice of the Master Chief,
The person in charge now is a little different.
It’s surprising to hear this considering Japan’s robust VA pool.
Not that Japanese dubs don’t miss the mark once in a while (despite what my American counterparts’ claim while we argue about the Black Lagoon English dub, Ghost in the Shell, and Mari’s English casting in 3.33’s opening being worthy of an award, etc)
Still, I’m really surprised to learn about this given Halo is definitely a classic American Buck Rogers type story, it’s the kind of Sci-Fi you’d expect from a manga.
Welp, looks like I’ll be doing 2 play throughs of Infinite when the Japanese dub comes out
I have been a fan of the HALO series since I was in elementary school. I was looking forward to hearing the voices of the Master Chiefs again at HALO 4, but I was shocked to hear that the voice actors had changed. To be honest, I’ve lost motivation from HALO 4. I was happy to hear that Cortana’s voice actor returned to Ms. Koike at this Halo Infinite, but I was disappointed that the master chief’s voice actor was not Mr. Tani. If possible, I would like to hear the voice of the Master Chief again in Mr. Tani’s voice.
Do we know who is responsible for dubbing the Japanese versions of the game? Do Microsoft do it internally, or do they use an external company? It might be more productive to petition that company rather than the American developers of the game. I suspect they have little to do with the selection of Japanese voice actors.
Unfortunately, the change in voice actors has nothing to do with the Japanese company; the decision was made by the Japanese staff at 343 Industries.
Therefore, the protest should be directed to 343 Industries.
Oh, interesting. I didn’t know that. Are they based in the US offices or in Japan?
@343 Industries,
Give our friends in Japan what they want. Allow Mr. Atsuki Tani to reprise his role as the Master Chief!
It is their wish, please grant it for their sake.
Sotaro Tojima, Audio Director for the Halo series at 343 Industries. He is based in the United States.
On his Twitter page, he writes
“This decision was strongly influenced by “my own feelings”, so if you’re disappointed when you play the game because of this cast, it’s my fault.”
He is a talented and ambitious person.
He is the right person to make HALO,
But,He has been disliked by Japanese fans and has stopped speaking since the release of HALO 4 in 2012.
However, without returning Mr. Tani of the original trilogy,
He keeps making fans sad.
I can’t feel sincerity in that action and I’m very sad
Thank you,
Everyone, the voice of the community drives MS,
You are keeping Japanese XBOX fans alive.
HALO is a special title in Japan.
For me, HALO original trilogy is a revolutionary work.
It has changed a lot before HALO3 and after HALO3.
I love Master Chief, Cortana and Arbiter.
I sincerely hope that the former Master Chief voice actor will return in Japan.
We just need to make sure this thread gets as much attention as possible.
Changing the voice of a character can ruin the experience. We need to help our Halo Bros in Japan.
Recasting anything with iconic characters should just never happen unless it’s absolutely necessary
I sincerely agree.
I want to regain a wonderful experience.
Is it in time for HALO Infinite or is it too late?
