This post has to do with these so-called “completionists” that want to have all the armor and skin within Halo 4.
Recently, various complaints about pre-order skins have been fired at 343i. Apparently, the main consensus among the “completionist group” is that the skins should be sold as DLC down the line and they would be willing to pay for them.
But that was when only skins were an issue, not armor itself.
Another consensus was that all armor should be unlockable for everyone in-game. This is now certainly not the case. In the new console bundle, the “FOTUS” armor is exclusive to the package and will certainly not be available for DLC. What does this mean for these “completionists”?
To have EVERYTHING, they need to:
pay for the $399 console (just to get the armor)
pay for the $99 limited edition (to get the exclusive skin)
Around $500 must be invested to have all the armor and skins. Even more will have to be invested to get the “DLC pre-order skin pack”. So… What does this mean for “completionists”?
IT IS IMPRACTICAL AND A WASTE TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR PIXELS THAT REALLY HAVE NO BENEFITS OTHER THAN AESTHETIC APPEAL.
Therefore, they must accept reality and that there are no real practical means as to get EVERYTHING.
What does this mean then? The Pre-Order skins, should now be exclusive to retailers and should never be sold as additional DLC. Why? Because completing the armory is already infeasible and since they won’t be able to get all the bonuses from these bundles, they shouldn’t need to get ALL the pre-order skins.
Preorders and exclusive DLC are different in my eyes. If I want to buy the console and the LE to get the special content that’s easy but nobody should have to buy six copies of the game from half way across the world to get all of the skins. Everyone has the chance to buy all of the content from the console or LE but it’s unrealistic to expect folks to buy the game multiple times.
I do understand that you think that they’re “just pixels” but to some of us it’s more than that. I was one of those kids who would throw away a ninja turtle if I lost his sword, the toy was incomplete and worthless. I’m the same way about my games, I want all of the skins, weapons, characters, everything and I don’t mind spending $600 for all the bonuses but spreading the preorders across multiple stores is dirty business. I expected better of 343, this is disappointing really, I had friends who bought like six copies of Gears 3 just to get the skins and it’s ugly.
So I, being one of those completionist weirdos want the preorders to be DLC later but not the LE and console goodies. If that makes any sense.
What a selfish way to think. If “completionists” want to get everything, and if 343i is willing, they should have that option. Keep your nose out of it and mind your own business, because it really does not affect you in the slightest.

Your points make complete sense. From a money-burner’s point-of-view.
Firstly, you’re the .1% (or maybe .01% of Halo 4’s consumers) that would be willing to pay that much money for content in a game. Not the game itself, but pixels within the videogame. A videogame that we honestly don’t have a great feel of how well it will play and that it will be succeeded by a superior title in two years and an even better one in another two.
So… According to your logic, the “skin” is the “sword” of your “videogame” “ninja turtle”. You make the game sound UNPLAYABLE if a simple skin is not obtained.
The game is fully functional without some of these skins. Plus, it’s not like you can wear all the skins at once.
One last point. You mentioned “dirty business”. How exactly? In my eyes, it stimulates business on various levels. People will flock to certain retailers based on these skins. This will cause those retailers to say “Hey, if we had cooler skins for when Halo 5 comes out, more people will buy the game from us!”
> What a selfish way to think. If “completionists” want to get everything, and if 343i is willing, they should have that option. Keep your nose out of it and mind your own business, because it really does not affect you in the slightest.
Is it more selfish to think my way or spend hundreds of dollars to get EVERYTHING in regards to in-game content in an impractical manner?

Where has it been confirmed that there won’t be armor DLC?

That is true. It’s just simply an impractical method of using their money.

Firstly, it’s more of an OCD thing. I don’t want to play a game that’s incomplete, it’s “unfair” for them to spread the preorders around because it’s nigh impossible for the folks like myself to obtain them all without spending a month’s pay on ebay. I think it’s dirty because they know that some people are going to buy five or six copies of the game to get them all. Perhaps it’s not “dirty” of them but it certainly isn’t very considerate of the community who wants to get the most out of their games.
Whenever I see a company that has multiple preorders, I just sigh. When Transformers: War for Cybertron came out they had three separate skins. One from Gamestop, one from Best buy and one from Amazon.com. The skin from Amazon was selling for OVER $100 on ebay, it was disgusting. That’s how badly some of us want the skins, so while it may not “enhance” the game, they’re highly sought after.
If it doesn’t make sense to you, that’s cool but try not to belittle the folks whom it does matter to.
If you’re not a completionist, stay out of it. We’re not paying $500 for skins. We’re getting a custom console, controllers, avatar items, a couple games, extended cut movie, steel case, AND skins.
A main goal of completionists is rarity and uniqueness. We’re not as excited to have something that everyone has. We’re excited to have everything we CAN have, including items that very few people have!
I personally am very excited for the FOTUS armor. I’m excited that 343i is backing up my expensive purchase by giving me a unique armor that very few people will have. I’m sure it will be a very rare occasion when I run into someone who also has the armor. I like that. I like being unique.
I do hope that they keep ALL exclusive skins and armors away from the Marketplace. Let collectors find them. Let everyone else have something unique.
I am getting both the Limited Edition Game and Console, the only thing that does suck is it is impossible for anyone to get all pre order skins. But I guess that’s what ebays for

> KEEP THE PRE-ORDER SKINS FROM BECOMING DLC
Thoughts:
If the armors have no benefits other than aesthetic appeal, why do you want to keep the exclusive?
And so what if completionists have to shell out for the console to get that exclusive? So what if it locks a few people out of it? Why should a few people being unable to get 100% who want to get 100% mean that nobody should get 100%?
> Well you’re not a very friendly person.

Firstly, how am I “unfriendly”? I am looking out for people by telling people not to squander their money!
And I think you almost have the correct mindset. You said “We’re getting a custom console, controllers, avatar items, etc.”. Good, good. YOU understand what you’re getting what you are paying for. I am just hammering on the people that are getting these expensive packages JUST for the skins.

Trust me, I’m getting it for the whole package. I have all of the Halo consoles (CE, 3, Reach and soon 4) Both Legendary editions and the new ones will fit nicely in my collection. The bonuses are just the icing on the cake.

> For multiple reasons. Firstly, having separate skins stimulates business among the retailers. Secondly, there is simply no reason to not have them exclusive. If people really want to pay that much money for SKINS, why not pay more of that money for the other skins? They certainly appear capable of doing that. It’s something I would greatly advise against, but it’s “their money”. If the sudden realization that everything cannot be obtained without paying hundreds of dollars reaches people, then people will think more smartly and track down the skins THEY specifically want. This actually allows people to be far more personalized. They understand which ones really mean a lot more to them and helps them stay “unique” as someone said above. Plus, you can’t wear multiple skins exactly.

Because those that are determined to pay all the money to get a 100% are still capable of paying for additional copies to get the 100%. Simple really. It’s still attainable according to my opinion.
> > And I think you almost have the correct mindset. You said “We’re getting a custom console, controllers, avatar items, etc.”. Good, good. YOU understand what you’re getting what you are paying for. I am just hammering on the people that are getting these expensive packages JUST for the skins.

I’m happy you also anticipate the other goodies. The problem is your initial analogy… Which made me think you were simply getting the bundles for JUST the skins…

It’s their money to spend how they please. Refer to the highlighted text.
Eh, I’m just glad that I will be getting the Limited Edition and preordering it at Best Buy to get that awesome Raptor skin for the Venator armor. That’s all that I really need. Having every single skin by shelling out 500 bucks is not going to matter anyway when Halo 5 and 6 come out.
I understand if its for collectors but it’s just not something for me personally.
> For multiple reasons. Firstly, having separate skins stimulates business among the retailers. Secondly, there is simply no reason to not have them exclusive. I fail to see how your logic works.
Restricting the skins isn’t going to help them pick out their favorite any easier or faster, it’s just going to piss them off. And even if this benefit of easier/faster selection existed, it’s a weak benefit.
> Because those that are determined to pay all the money to get a 100% are still capable of paying for additional copies to get the 100%. Simple really. It’s still attainable according to my opinion.
So if they really want it, just make them shell out $1k to buy everything from all the specific retailers?
This just sounds like you want to troll completionists and make them hurt for some perceived injustice.
