Really it’s about the fact that they’re are so many options that could have been introduced instead.
Imagine the store didn’t cost a fortune and was filled with tons of content to go a long with it?
People focus on it because of the other issues.
There have been so many other customisation options in the past that are now missing.
It’s isn’t like they had to start from scratch.
Halo has had great cosmetics in the past and they are missing.
If we could make custom emblems ETC then the cats ears wouldn’t bother people thatl much.
If you are familiar with Gears of War… . There was a character named Oscar who got a custom wrestler custom… People flipped.
Then they introduced an actual wrestler into the game.
Why were these issues?..
Because there were so many previous characters skins that didn’t come back that we liked and earned/unlocked/bought that didn’t return…
But that wrestlers made it into the game for marketing
It isn’t that I’m opposed to the cat ears… … But why the cat ears but not the other options?

my guess someone modeled them while they were bored, their boss came over and was like. “…ah, what the hell, we do it, good job frank”
Weebs and gamers usually go hand in hand. It’s more common to be both than only one and not the other. 343 is probably aware of this enough to know Yoroi, Sakura Petals, Shurikens, Hatsune Miku Grunt, and Cat Ears would sell. I’m expecting anime style victory poses any month now, including many variants of the V fingers pose. I’m fine with it. It could be worse, way worse.

I’m not inclined to get the cat ear cosmetic. However for those that do have it, I’ve been wondering if you get different medals.
For example, if you kill an enemy with a precision weapon with peak efficiency, do you get a “purrfect”?

Saying 343 should do their own thing can mean an INFINITE number of things though. People who said that were surely thinking of other things like gameplay mechanics, story and so forth. Using that phrase against anyone who doesn’t like some specific cosmetic item is not exactly accurate.
All that being said though, I honestly think it’s not that big of a deal. The cat ears get more attention than they should lol.
I do understand people who find them too expensive though. I agree with them. But other players wearing the ears imo shouldn’t bother anyone much.
Who wouldn’t complain? If whining 24/7 means getting free stuff then why not?
to EndTimes point: not against it, just why not something…more military is what maybe confused the more serious halo fans at the start.
I think they have to slowly turn up the “quirk” cause there is an armor coating pattern that certainly mimics a spartan wearing shorts at first glance.
AAAND i also think there is a wide range of Halo fan that is on the up-n-up about the surrounding humor in the series and Cat ears are a very valid approach. Like we have a flipping samurai sword and fire axe we can strap on in MCC now.
Also all this fan/genre gatekeeping is nothing new, there are phobes everywhere these days and if they arnt into cats and dogs they sure as heck are gonna assume its a weeb/furry thing.

These things are done to appeal to certain demographics(not shaming it)
but these are just happenstances.
This company decided not to work on bringing the liked cosmetics from the past and embracing the franchise’s lore and pushed that to the side for the sake of attempting to cater/attract a different segment of gamers(again, not shaming it) but we gotta not be gullible.
Where is all the great cosmetics from the past? Where are the custom emblems and clan emblems etc?
Those got shelved for this type of stuff and I am sure there is more of this on the way…
meanwhile…
the community while be waiting months to get decent lore based cosmetics
