Why pick Halo from all the other First/third person shooters?

My uncle came over one November about 18 years ago. He had just bought this new console that came out called the “Xbox”.
He had played some of this new Halo game at home and wanted to show my dad. They let me try for awhile and it was pretty fun, but it wasn’t until I stepped out of the escape pod onto Halo and looked around that I was hooked.
I still remember the feeling of “this place is in the future, but also some how older” my kid brain was able to parse.
I grew up with Halo and then got introduced to the OG Call of Duty games and Gears of War. They were all fun to play, but I just kept coming back to Halo every time. What kept drawing me in was the incredible story.
Call of Duty in the old days was just different re-tellings of World War II, but then they got into some more modern games, each of which just felt like a copy of the last one imo. Gears is actually a pretty cool story too, but Halo just kept coming up with amazing stories in each game along with incredibly fun to read expanded material. I found that I cared about each of the characters as individuals on top of their impact on the stories. Each death actually mattered to me on a certain level. When Dom died in Gears, I felt bad, but it didn’t hit me like Johnson or Miranda Keyes dying. I would include Cortana’s death here… but we all know how that ended up.
TL;DR the incredibly well thought out story has kept me engaged and invested for two decades while the others have just been fun to play

Halo was my first FPS. Nothing else has matched how much I love its gameplay yet, I don’t think anything ever will for me.
Halo CE back in 2001, was the first FPS I played and Halo 2 was the first one I got quite good at. Before then it was games like Spyro and Crash. It’s game play just works for me, the combination of Guns Melee and Grenades, plus the movement, even the shield system which means that combat encounters are more skill based and not who sees who first wins because it only takes a few shots (like in Call of Duty) Plus there is the story and the lore which I absolutely love, plus characters that I really like such as Cortana, Halsey, Mendez, Johnson. Buck, The Arbiter, plus of course the Chief himself. Plus all the memories of playing the different Halo games with friends. Nothing beats Halo for me
