Why Change the Binary Rifle?

There are a lot of changes to a lot of the guns in Halo 5, but the change I hate the most isn’t the Lightrifle turning into a 3 instead of 4 shot, not the increased overheat speed and kill time of the storm rifle, because these changes were actually good changes that I like. The change that really gets under my skin is how much they changed the Binary Rifle. Why? This gun was so good in Halo 4 it’s the only reason I ever go back to the game, to play the snipers playlist and hope that Binary Slayer shows up. Before the Binary Rifle was a 1 hit kill and could only be used accurately when scoped in and produced a laser when zoomed. Now the Binary Rifle from what I’ve used of it is it is now a .5 second beam weapon with high accuracy zoomed in or out and still does produce the laser when zoomed, although now that it’s a beam weapon it does prove to be a bit more effective on vehicles, although the Binary Rifle was never intended for this use, it was supposed to be used to take down infantry from a far range. But now it feels like I can only get hit-markers with it because as soon as someone gets touched with it they thrust or jump out of the line of fire only to take down their shields and as soon as I get my reticle back on them the .5 seconds is over. I hate this change. Does anyone else feel the same way? Or have any other weapon modifications that should have never happened? Please tell me.

I have the Mastery Commendation completed for the Binary Rifle and even with the change that was made for H5, it is still one of my favorite weapons in the game. I have found it is pretty easy to still get one shot kills if you’re patient with the weapon itself and aren’t always scoped in. And the Retina of the Mind’s Eye and Twin Jewels of Maethrillian variants are freaking awesome!

I agree with this, the old Binary Rifle was amazing! Now its just garbage against moving soft targets. (infantry for those who don’t understand military terminology) I think they made have a role like the modern day .50cal sniper, vehicular suppression.

Halo 4 binary rifle was a beast! Can’t say the same for halo 5.

Its pretty lame for a sniper I mean it already emits a beam across the map to give away your position or the fact that your team even has one, but to slightly nerf it from the Halo 4 binary? Doesnt seem right

I actually find it rather fun. It’s nice to have something that feels different - a different sort of sniper rifle compared to the regular human one.

I’m sure they just wanted to make all the weapon groups feel different to one another… why have 3 sniper rifles that behave the exact same way?

They probably changed it so it takes some “skill” to kill with it, instead of being a one-hit-kill if you hit someone in the pinky toe.

Because then the Mythic weapon Nornfang would be irrelevant.

I get that feeling when I think about how weak the base vehicle variants are, there would be no point in having twelve Warthogs if the standard one wasn’t made of twigs and cardboard.

I feel that I can never get a kill with it and I only take down there shields. I also don’t like that the other snipers give away your position also. The human sniper is fine because it’s hard to point out the position but the beam rifle shows a giant purple light that alerts other people.

I hate the binary rifle now.

It was both buffed and nerfed in halo 5. The aiming laser is more difficult to see now and it is still a one hit kill if you keep the beam focused on the target. Its just a bit more skill based now than what it used to be. Oh and it still wrecks vehicles too.

Every other Forerunner weapon was rebalanced in good ways, except the binary rifle
It was fine in Halo 4, its 1 shot ability was balanced by the giant -Yoinking!- red beam that should where you were.
Now, we have a giant -Yoinking!- red beam, a gun that fires a beam, and enemies with thrusters that can evade the beam instantly.

It’s similar to the beam rifle in reach but thank god its not as terrible as that thing was

halo 5 binary is a no no for me

I like it…

I think they did it so that it was a weapon that took a little more skill and as you said, it now does more damage to vehicals. Instead of being a point and kill gun, you need to have a little control when using it. With enough practices you can learn what shot you can take and what shots you can’t. I think its fine as is. Keeps us from having three of the same weapon. Sniper, beam, stronger version of the two

You can multikill with a single shot now though so though it kind of a debuff it does have an advantage
