Like the Title says why attempt to cater to someone when they don’t care how the game plays out either way… no matter what as long as there is good promotion and adverting they are going to buy and play the game anyway… so what’s the point of catering to them? In halo 3 I was a casual player I didn’t care about the game mechanics… but others did… why should there fun be compromised for someone who doesn’t care?
Win - Win for Everyone.
If 343 made a technically sound game for Halo 4, with fluid controls near perfect weapon balanced and first class ranking system, It’s a win-win for everyone… I don’t care who you are or your opinions… if Halo 4 is fair fun and balanced its a Win-win for the competitive community the causal community and 343 themselves.
Competitive players
Competitive players only want the best for halo… all they want is balanced environment to where the can compete against players of a similar skill level… that’s it, A challenge. Everyone has fun playing Halo but competitive players want to challenged and their skills pushed to the limit to make themselves better players… When gimmicks and crutches are added which will almost always result it being abused… it creates an unbalanced environment. Since everyone is using the crutch.
343
This will help 343 because it will save time from them having to do (possibly) endless amounts of patches in an attempt to rebalance the game due to the crutches. Since peoples Average skill level will change overtime during Halo 4 Lifetime… more and more patches will be required, meantime there will be a lot of uproar on the forums… If 343 cut to the chase and made the game fair and balanced… they could use that extra time to focus on something more worthwhile.
What’s the Worst that can Happen?
Seriously 343, what is the worst that can happen…? “This game is too balanced” please let me know? I mean is a balanced game to much to ask for… causal players won’t mind anyway… it doesn’t matter how the game is for them as long as it has decent graphics and a good campaign ect.
There are Hundreds of ways to change & innovate Halo without resulting to crutches and imbalance.

Build everything from the top down, not for the players that won’t understand or care about the innerworkings of the game in the first place. No reason not to.
Assuming Casuals don’t care is like assuming all competitive players are MLG tryhards. Its not that casuals don’t care, just we don’t play halo religiously

What?? Im only talking about the gameplay? The game mechanics are not that important to the average soical/causal player… so why should others peoples fun be comprimised as a result?
Im only speaking from experience… in Halo 3 I didn’t care about winning that much and the game mechanics wasn’t that Important to me… it wouldn’t affect me that if Halo 3 was changed to suit someone who does care about the gamplay. (To Resonable extent.)

Do you honestly think gaming companies try to make their games unbalanced? Its not a conspiracy…
This again? You can’t classify people based on their motive to play. Does being “casual” necessarily mean you like the changes, does being “competitive” mean you don’t? You used personal experience so I’ll use some too, my bother is competitive and loves AAs.
If “competitive” players want a balanced game does that mean “causals” want an unbalanced game? People keep acting like it’s two ends of a spectrum, when it’s not. You can be casual and care about the game, why is that so hard for some of you to understand?
If you really believe that what competitive players want everyone will like. You are so very sadly mistaken.
competitive players hate armor lock and jetpacks. However casual players love these AAs.
You say all competitive players want is for a better game. A “better” game is a matter of opinion. Competitive players might not want certain things in matchmaking thinking it’ll make a better game when at the same time casual players will want something else because they think it’ll be fun.
Please get off your high horse and thinking that competitive knows best.

If you are playing to win, then you are playing competitively.
Lemme turn that question around. Why cater to someone who cops an attitude like that?
> Competitive players only want the best for halo…
Doubt it.
I see far too many who are just interested in making Halo the best for them and their method of thinking. Not what’s best for Halo on an objective level.

I suspect this thread might get locked.
Until then: Gunnd, do you really think that 343 is going to do a complete 180 and drop AAs, Perks, and all the “gimmicks and crutches” just for one forum post?
No, they aren’t. If the player backlash against it hasn’t swayed them, this post definitely won’t.

Playing to win doesn’t necessarily mean your competitive. I mean who in all honesty enjoys losing.
Competitive is more about caring for your stats, your win/loss, your ranking, and generally being the best. Hence the term “Competitive”.
Casual is more of the opposite with only playing once and awhile, not going into ranked playlists often, and not being too affected by losing (which is different than not caring if you lose)
People seem to misinterpret these very easy terms as the stereotypical: “Casuals don’t care what you put in front of them, they’ll just play it and have fun no matter what” or “Competitive is true halo players who are hard-core and understand every single thing about halo”.
> Build everything from the top down, not for the players that won’t understand or care about the innerworkings of the game in the first place. No reason not to.
Trickle-down arguments for gameplay in halo? Lol.
If you had your way, the “casuals” would feel something trickling down on them alright, something warm and wet…
> Didn’t you already make a dozen of threads similar to this?
Funny enough, I made a thread about pancakes that lasted half as long and got a metric TON of thanks and support. More than all of Gunn’d’s threads combined.
Ah, I miss that thread. Deep in the abyss of somewhere beneath the second page.
