This seems really weird, what’s the point? I want to be able to discuss the next custom game we’re playing and stuff ://
There is no point I think, it’s only not an option. If you are playing in custom with friends you can use the party chat.

I really wish you could communicate with your fireteam as soon as you joined up and then in in-between games. We shouldn’t have to switch between party and chat modes just to stay in contact and still be able to talk to others in game. Why have we regressed to not be able to communicate with fireteam members out of game?

It’s because of dedicated servers. In previous Halo games lobby sessions always had one of the players hosting the session (including chat). In Halo 5 players don’t host anything because games all run on dedicated servers. The problem is that lobby sessions are not assigned to a dedicated server until the game is started. For some reason 343 thought that this was acceptable, and many have tried to convince them that that was a mistake. Hopefully they got the message and won’t do the same in Halo 6. There are 2 potential ways I can imagine to fix the issue:
- Assign fireteams (with multiple players) to a dedicated server prior to the game starting. Unfortunately this is unlikely due to limited server resources. This could potentially be mitigated by setting a time limit for providing chat to people in the menu, or by forcing the host to request chat to the fireteam so that server resources don’t get wasted.
- Assign fireteams (with multiple players) to a player hosted connection purely for chat purposes. Unfortunately this is unlikely considering the game doesn’t support player hosted connections for anything.
This is actually one of the main reasons I listed as being a major issue when trying to host a custom game session in the YouTube video that I did on the subject. Read Ducain23’s comments regarding game chat.
