As the title says, I have been here since March of 2012 and i have seen the kind of things that go on here at Waypoint. Yes, we are divided among ourselves, but we can just put that aside and be a great community. Look at Bungie, they managed a great community for the last 10 years. I left their community after they left because i wanted a community soley for and all i see is a degrading piece of -Yoink-. We’re all gamers and all came and stayed for halo, right? I ask the community this questions, Why don’t we just shut up and be a great community? Now i know some people are like" “we want competitive halo”, well guess that’s what MLG is for. If you don’t like how the developer develops their game, suck it up. If we came together as a community and shared ideas, then halo will still be the best game series when we grow old and die. Again i ask this question, Why cant we just be a community?

"Look at Bungie, they managed a great community for the last 10 years."
"Why don’t we just shut up and be a great community?"
The Bungie Community, including myself, are in a state of anticipation. We want to see what’s next for us with Destiny. We’re happy and excited. The Bungie community wasn’t always fun and games though. Even they had serious issues with games like Reach. But here’s the difference: Bungie listens. 343 does not communicate like Bungie does. It drives communities, especially the Halo community, completely mad when studios do not let them know that they’re listening and that they hear us.
"If we came together as a community and shared ideas"
The Community’s ideas sometimes suck. Halo 4 is the prime example of what happens when a developer is too open to the public’s ideas about their games. It ends up being a mess(MY opinion).
"If you don’t like how the developer develops their game, suck it up."
Suck it up? I think i’ll just stop playing it and lose interest in that developer’s franchise. OR… I can come to the forums and try and be heard!
This is where you find some of the most diverse combinations of communities within Halo, getting along shouldn’t be a requirement. I believe evolution comes from conflict and so certain forms of conflict are indeed healthy.
However being civil, that’s a whole other subject on debating and argueing and likely what you are referring to.
… And Bungie.NET is far from monolithic as you seem to think OP, BTB.NET, Halotracker and of course MLG are where you find more like-minded players. B.NET post Halo2 was never a pretty as you seem to think it was/is.
@eliteslaya13, 343i isn’t perfect by any measure, but they have little to measure them by.
Within 2 months of H4’s release, 343i has supported H4 as much as Bungie did for H2 , H3 and H:R before 3 months were up for them.
What 343i hasn’t done is made arrangements to change damage values to certain weapons like Bungie did with H2 because H2 pre-TU was the Beta that H4 is falsely accused of being now. But Bungie only changed the grenade power levels by community demand, the other sandbox values weren’t by community demand, merely game data feedback vs paper design.
It was 343i that gave the Reach TU, not Bungie… It was 343i that gave MLG free CEA maps for their circuit…
To make such ridiculous claims on your part is disturbing.

I stuck with the community until everything started to fall apart post reach. After reach came around, i lost my faith in the community there. I had my reasons when i left after Bungie went to pursue Desiny
For once, I’m almost completely agreeing with Reaper’s post except for one thing:

I’ve posted this a few times, maybe you’ve seen it before, maybe not but…
Post Halo 2 huh? I think it was present DURING Halo 2.

Lastly, it isn’t disturbing, just a perspective…
How about post-H2 launch? Because I certainly don’t mean after H3 was released

These forums are too much.

I knew what you meant. Just felt like being a grammar -Yoink!- for once. Good post, like I said, I do agree with it.

Well…you did say that. Don’t blame him for contributing to a bad community when you derided the competitive folks by telling them to shut up.

they cant cater to everyone,so they gotta live with it.

Why not? A playlist with more traditional Halo set ups would go a long way. Smaller maps, be then in-game or Forged, a visible ranking system, weapons that spawn on the map, removal of ordinance, loadouts, etc.
They can keep Halo 4’s core gameplay, ie ordinance, loadouts, ect, in another playlist. Halo 3 was decent in that regard.
You are basically giving the middle finger to a sizable portion of the fanbase dude, a unified community will never happen if you treat them with disdain.
I agree with this topic alot of things that i see on the threads are either other players complaining about the same thing that another player has or simple things that do not even matter to the game. Some may not realize or want to admit it, but their is atleast l or 2 things that are in halo 4 ( that people do not like) that is in halo 4 because of past community outcries and feedback.

And how exactly is your attitude contributing to building a welcoming community? You’re basically saying, “My way or the highway” and they’re responding with, “Screw you and your highway.” Your entire OP was the epitome of what can be wrong with communities in general. Waypoint is supposed to be for Halo fans from all walks of life and to have the kind of attitude you have in your OP is counterproductive to building and fostering a healthy environment.
You don’t get to dictate the rules of a community to people. That’s not how communities work.
Maybe I have to bite snicker doodle…,
I’ve been active on waypoint since August 2010. When I came here, I was excited that these were new forums, a place were I could be in a community. Yes indeed I am here. As such, I’ve seen a lot of different people, some come and go. But it is important to be friendly to those people and for those people to be friendly as well.
“Welcome to waypoint, please by polite, respectful, civilized, and most importantly have fun! Enjoy your stay!”
That was about my usual welcome to waypoint post with a few other things. Waypoint spirit.
Saying that one kind of people shouldn’t be here, isn’t helping. It you want a better community, one should start by one’s self. So just be helpful, let your emotions ignore the unpleasant stuff, act intelligently and have fun.

Any kind of relationship requires work and a community is a relationship between many different kinds of people. In this case, different kinds of gamers form this community. There are those who forge, those who play griffball, those who play casually, competitively, etc. If I had to identify myself I would say Im in between casual and competitive. I prefer playing competitively but I can play casually without a problem. To be a great community we have to be open and welcoming to new ideas. Telling everyone to “suck it up” is very closed minded and it doesn’t welcome the newer members or old veterans who have been dedicated.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because its not the same as yours doesn’t mean they should just abandon their opinions and give up. The forums goal are discussion and while everyone doesn’t always conduct themselves in a positive manor, doesn’t mean they aren’t welcome to this community.
A community CAN have different opinions and telling others to suck it up is not helping the community.
There are actually a lot of nice people on here. you’ll mostly find them in the Rollcall thread because it’s the easiest way for beginners to make friends and be greeted. Somewhere beneath the new game complaints and such, you’ll find them.
Why? Because there are a bunch of self-proclaimed videogame enthusiasts who think they know what a real videogame should look and play like.
Honestly, most of the community does not know how much it takes to create a game like this. As if everything is just so simple. As if the companies should all kneel down and tend to everyone’s needs.
Halo 4 is a -Yoinking!- great game. It’s beautiful, and people have put a lot of work in it. And then a bunch of teenage boys and guys who stay at home all day want to put in their input like if they know it all.
I agree with you.
I think everyone should shut up and enjoy what these creative and hard working people have made for the general public.
And if they don’t like it, they can go study up and create their own videogame franchise.
This place makes me sad…
I got Halo 4 for Christmas and me and my family absolutely loved it, we beat the campaign on legendary and played multiplayer till our seats where moldy and sweaty, then I finally decided to come check these forums out and what I’m seeing here completely stuns me, I’m shocked at all the hate towards this game, people treating it like its the worst game of all time and 343 failed the franchise, I mean come on, I haven’t had this much fun since Halo 2 and that was a long time ago.
I feel like it was a mistake coming here, don’t be surprised if I just up and disappear from this place sometime soon…
