Why can’t we have our own Dedicated Server Software like we could with Halo Combat Evolved, Halo CE, Halo2, and Halo 2 Anniversary? This way we would not have to rely on those Microsoft Azure Gaming Servers. Hell 343 uses a version for their gaming servers.
So why can’t we have a user version for Halo Infinite dedicated server?
I have been running game servers since 1998 when Starsiege Tribes Franchise, Unreal Tournament Franchise, Steam Orange Box Franchise, Battlefield Franchise,
COD Franchise and others.
It blows we away why we don’t have any dedicated server software for Halo Infinite like we had in past Halo Games!
I think 343i just got tired of people crying outside the USA with not being able to find matches that they are making us all play together now regardless of how rough the servers are running now. just so that one person can find a match!
…What? Literally none of these games are live service games. A live service game has an ongoing revenue model that’s designed to make money in perpetuity (until the game is no longer profitable and then subsequently support ceases).
Halo 2 got a map pack you could buy on xbox live and solid disc
Halo 2 Anniversary was… just a remaster…
and you listed Halo CE twice. Halo CE = Combat Evolved.
Hozer, live service DOES NOT MEAN “Has Xbox Live” - Live Service means that it is a consistently and routinely updated, supported and maintained game. The biggest issue with live services is that they tend to launch… without a whole lot. But, pretty much all of them get a lot of content eventually. Halo Infinite will really be no different in the end. Indeed I DO have faith it’ll end up the best of the franchise in time.
But I really, really, really think you have something confused.
EDIT: It hits me you might have meant Custom Edition? Which you mostly just, booted up a lobby.
But like… Hozer, what you’re talking about has never been in Halo.
It’s definitely a give and take. The current set up allows for matches/games to be found and started super quick. In less than one minute. With server selection it’ll slow down the matchmaking process.
Most likely because of security concerns. People hosting servers would have to be trustworthy enough not to dox client IP addresses and MS/343 would have to create the tools in such a way that they can’t be reverse engineered to source code.
What would be the security issuses? If a person is hosting a game in their house I could see it but like we did back in the day and now we would use a Game Hosting company that would host the game for a price and it would come with a Control panel so you can do what ever you want to your server. IE: Gameservers.com and HostHavoc.com and others just to name a couple. I don’t see the issues at all. I host my Battlefield 2042 from a Game Hosting Company and have been running it since the release of Battlefield 2042. I have no isses with it at all.
As a Admin you can kick, ban, move, text users. You can upload mods to your game server, switch maps on the fly, shutdown your server and restart your server and lots more. So I don’t see any of the security issues at all buddy! It’s a bummer that you cannot that in Halo Infinite.
Well live gaming service to me means that you have a game server that is up and running online live everyday 24 hours a day!
That is a live service! That is what a live game server means to me. You can’t be live unless you are online providing a 24 hours 7days a week gaming service!
Every game I have bought has all of those options going back to 1998 With Starseige Tribes. If MCC did not have a way to Admin a Server I would not have bought the game! I only buy games I can run and Admin myself!
I don’t care what it means to you. A live service game has a specific definition that you don’t get to rewrite. And your definition:
That’s not the definition of a live service game. Generally live service games have online servers, but there are plenty of non service games that have online servers.
But that’s not what a live service game is. Sorry. Doesn’t matter what it means to you.
It actually is the end of the discussion! Because you’re just wrong.
Imagine if I said “Dogs aren’t cold blooded because all dogs are mammals with four legs”
And you said “I consider a dog anything with four legs, so my lizard is a dog. So dogs can be cold blooded.”
And no matter how many times I tried to say that part of being a dog requires it to be a mammal, you just keep repeating that lizards have four legs, therefor they’re dogs.
That’s what’s happening here. I keep telling you that a game having an online component doesn’t make it a live service game, and you keep saying that live service games have online components, therefor any online component makes a game live service.
We can’t have a discussion because you just have no idea what you’re talking about.
