Why can't limited time event passes be permanent for everyone to earn?

When it comes to having a two week chance of getting those cosmetics, I personally believe they should be part of a battle pass like the Winter update and armors like Reach Armor should be given a permanent chance to be either bought or earned. Because they were given a permanent chance from previous games like Reach and MCC. I know Halo Infinite is explicitly stated to be a “live service”, but I personally feel for the benefit of everyone, they should not be having a FOMO feeling of trying to earn those cosmetics and I politely request those event passes should be given a permanent chance for people to obtain them and I respectfully ask for those who might have very busy weeks to be given a chance to get those cosmetics any time forever instead of them being limited.

A good way to do this would be to make it come to the shop later. That would really reward you for collecting all the items when they were free. It also rewards player who played in the beginning and lets them get an advantage for being an OG. Another way would be creating events called Vault events that feature items from events in the past. These events could also come with limited time modes associated with the items included. Also having what I call “Vault Events” could make events not have a set theme because the events would have a little bit of everything.

If they did that @LITTLE_LEVEL then they would officially 100% break a promise they made in the first multiplayer overview. They said that nothing that could be obtained for free would ever be purchasable. They’ve already gone back on several promises already and it’s killed this game. Well it’s at least killed it for me.

The way to do this would be making the event passes for that season available after that season has ended. Make those passes now open for any challenge progression and work just like how we currently choose which pass to progress. This gives value in completing the pass during the season so that those who are able to complete it can have those cosmetics immediately, but doesn’t punish those who are indisposed during that time.

Well like I suggested a better solution would be to make events that have a mix of old event cosmetics that randomly appear about a year after the events original release.

They should do what Sea of Theives does with its BP and port them back into the game, either by acquiring them in-game or through the store (that’s how SoT does it. would much prefer us earning our cosmetics)

I was away for last year’s holiday event. I was away for most of this past year’s. I think I only got a few things from the first one and I might have been able to grind out this most recent one. I can’t remember at this point. I just know I’ve missed stuff for most events because I don’t have time to just play constantly. Which is why I’ve been super happy about the most recent event being simple challenges a two weeks. I actually got everything, I didn’t for the tac ops event. I just didn’t have time to grind a game type I wasn’t having fun with.

I think the current two week format is forgiving enough to allow almost all interested players to unlock the things that they want. If you can unlock everything later then the population drop off would be even worse right now. Why wouldn’t players just wait until season 3 and unlock everything then?

I am a big supporter of making event items available in the shop later but that really needs the shop to be fixed so that you can buy any item at any time.

You should be able to buy anything that’s in the store at any time. It should be a catalog and not this rotational fomo bs. Also no they shouldn’t bring free content to the shop. As I’ve posted above, that’s the only promise 343i hasn’t broken yet.

Remember how they said it was going to have ray tracing? Then they said it wasn’t going to launch with it and nothing has been said since.

I bought an Series X for the ray tracing. Where’s my god dang ray tracing 343i?!

^ (that’s a Harley Quinn reference/paraphrase just in case some people don’t get it)

But seriously I did infact buy the new console for the promise of ray tracing. It’s been over a year 343i, where is it? I’ve seen a couple stories online back in November saying it’s coming in March, but I haven’t heard anything official from 343i about this.

Having limited events works when you have a captive audience, but it only becomes a deterrent for players on the fence. 343 needs to assume that anyone they want to attract to halo has no relationship too it - there’s plenty of cool super suits and shooters out there.

Assuming that, why would a kneepad or helmet for some weird looking suit attract anyone but the most hardcore fan? a.k.a. the dudes who were already playing. What is 343 doing to attract new players? Oh i know, PR debacle after PR debacle. The only good word of mouth this game gets is ON HERE. Nobody talks about, or wants to talk about Halo with anyone else, because the conversation will inevitably spiral down into this months scandal. Player numbers, desync, scummy cosmetics, no maps, broken guns or sandbox, irate pros, flagging league, delayed seasons, etc etc etc.

Lol, this is not going to work long term. People are not going to continue supporting mtx/wasting money on cosmetics forever. The real long term solution, applicable for all games across all genres, is to add old event items into a general loot pool that can be obtained through normal gameplay. Personally I’m never buying another battle pass, cosmetic, etc., ever again. If a game dev wants my money they’re going to have to go back to releasing complete games at a $40-60 price point. Within 5 years the words “battle pass”, “microtransaction”, “in-game store” will cause games to flop outright. Ask yourself this, do you want the game with a mountain of “old” content to dig through, or do you want the game with new content every week but you can’t ever go back and experience the old stuff?

other than shop the event have also been a reason i dont play, even just for rewards. i want to be able to earn armor whenever i want to, not feel like i have to or else its gone for good.

it really would be a whole lot better with a catalog system, maybe they could make it so weekly ultimate challenges also reward with credits if they don’t now. stuff in the catalog would probably be more expensive but at least if they gave us more ways to earn credits i might actually consider buying bp’s and give them the money they’ve earned.

Or just I dunno make the events a yearly thing? Have Tenrai happen in Novmember as the first event and so on and so forth.

What if they added ability to progress another Fracture event at the same time as a new one launch? So the next event gives you the option of completing an older one, a bit like we can right now with switching battlepasses.

I noticed with Eaglestrike I had completed all tiers before the event ended. So the possibility of progressing another if you already completed one.

The downside, this also favours those who can play a lot, and the typical live service/F2P thing is to sell XP boosters so those with less time spend money to shortcut that.

I think events could be adjusted to sort of mirror the way that BP’s are “forever available”, but it eod take some adjustments to the event schedule.

First brainstorm attempt…

  1. Events would no longer be a specific event happening a specific week, instead each season will have a number of “event weeks”.
  2. During an event week, players can choose an incomplete event to progress. Default is the newest event pass.

So instead of events only happening a specific week, instead during an event week you would just choose your event pass you want to level. 343 could even keep past event passes locked to players who pay for the current BP.

Well that’s one of the things about the event passes. They don’t use XP, they unlock tiers by completing challenges. So you don’t use XP boosts for the events, maybe you’ll use challenge swaps. It’s easier to actually complete an event now that we only have 10 challenges a week and they make them all be for the event. Ya know instead of the terribly slow 20 challenges where only every other challenge is for the event and you’ll have to leave the event playlist to finish those challenges to get more event challenges and go back to the event playlist and do it all over again around 4 times if you want to finish the event. That system was extremely grindy and felt slow and unrewarding. It’s why I almost never finished any evet during the first two seasons.

The current setup is better, but they can still screw it up. A good example being the event before Noble Intentions, Tac Ops. The Tac Ops event had overly specific challenges that you could only get in that playlist. I was not having fun in that playlist and couldn’t get hardly any progress to those challenges because they were way to specific.

Noble Intentions is a great example of how to do these events. Make it so that you can just play whatever you want and get progress from just playing what you like. Some of the challenges were a bit easy and you could usually get 3 to 4 done per game, but I’d much rather have that than what Tac Ops was. I wanted to finish the Tac Ops event for the JFO helmet, but just couldn’t because I wasn’t having fun and it was taking to much time. I didn’t care about finishing the Noble Intentions event, but did because it didn’t take 20 hours of grinding an unfun game type. It was just a couple hours of Fiesta and some BTB and I was a happy lad.

They just need to find a happy medium of what feels too easy verses what feels too difficult/time consuming and unrewarding. If they can find that spot then keeping limited events would be fine because they’re doable. It’ll still suck if you’re not available during the event, but doable. I would like to see them bring back past 1 week events so people can have another go at them. Either by allowing us to pick past event passes or just running the events again.

Last thing here, I think I completed eagle strike and tenri or at least got close to the end and made it as far as I cared to put time into it because that was during the terrible 20 challenge setup. Those events were 30 tiers over 4 to 5 weeks meaning we had more opportunities to not be available or stop grinding early. We had 30 tiers which needed 30 challenges, but had 4-5 weeks each with 10 challenges. That’s a surplus of 10-20 challenges so you could stop playing early and not finish the last 2-4 challenges each week with no worries. 1 week events are a little bit tighter since it’s 10 tiers 1 week 10 challenges. Be there or be square… and such.

343 wants easy challenges combined with FOMO. I rather have harder challenges without FOMO, but okay.

That would get messy after a few events though. So if you were a casual player you would have hundreds to choose from.

I forgot how grindy it used to be, it was horrible RNG if you needed challenges to progress the event. I agree, the Noble Intentions event was much better way to do this.

Maybe after a year or so they can bring back previous Fractures as optional battlepasses. That way those who want to be the first can still do it when the event first rolls out, but players know they will get a chance in future.
