Why can't I play with friends on reach?

So I’m trying to get in a party on reach but here’s the thing we can’t as in my friends name hasn’t shown up in the friends list has anyone else experienced this problem?

You have to add them to your friends on the “360 emulator” too, (assuming you have only added him/her as your friend on Xbox one) Press “start” and “select” on the controller as you are in Halo: Reach. and go to your friends, from there, choose to add a friend, type your friends gamertag in there and send the friend request. He should get the request soon after. For him/her to accept it, you have to tell him to press “start” and “select” on his/her controller and go to messages, and from there, accept your friend request.

I hope this helps and is understandable.
