Why does 343 think its a good idea to stick this mode in a pool of modes in BTB? Why don’t game modes have their own list for example: Strongholds list for people looking to play strongholds. CTF list for (rare) people who actually like CTF.
It’s been 50 mins of leaving matches and I keep rolling CTF, Slayer and Strongholds when I need to win 3 Total Control matches. This is tedious AF. I hate being forced to play a disliked gamemode just because its shoved in a random pool of crap. If i keep leaving I know I get 10 minute ban so wtf is wrong with having game specific modes where people won’t leave?
This halo game lacks Guns, Vehicles, certain spartan customizations, jetpacks, and fun gamemodes like Griffball and infected… and now they wanna force me to play something I don’t even wanna play?. This halo game is so stupid. Good job 343 you Devolved.
At this point most game modes are watered down compared to Halo MCC. I find that the problem here is you leaving matches and being part of the problem. Play Slayer if you want Slayer. BTB covers both. Just like ranked arena. Good luck with your endeavors fellow Spartan.
The algorithm has a strict limit on how often you can get a Total Control match. After you get one you might have to play for a couple days until you get another.
I figured that my first match in BTB would be Total Control. I was right, and fortunately my team of randoms easily won the match. Winning two of these matches could be nearly impossible, however.
I like playing a few hours a day, but this challenge should require only 1 win due to the low frequency of Total Control matches.
Every time I get a game specific challenge, I literally cannot get that game mode. The chances of getting it always seem to drop to about 1 in 10, not to mention the RNG of actually getting a team capable of winning. Two Total Control wins is an absurdly tall order. Stop making our progress dictated by yoinking RNG!!
I feel personally it would come down to the principle of ‘Murphy’s Law’ “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” and I’ve found it is something that just happens with life in general haha; when you want the specific gametype to finish a challenge, it will take forever to find
Then I again I could be wrong, and I would love to hear your perspectives and experiences with this

I feel that it would be great if you would be able to pick specific gametypes (like MCC) and this is something that they should add, or will eventually add in down the line
I definitely think the algorithm makes required gametypes less likely - an artificial (and really crappy) way of increasing player engagement or frustrating them so much that they purchase challenge swaps.
When I needed 3 CTF wins in ranked for the ultimate it took 45 matches to get 4 CTF games because it hardly ever appeared (I got a load of oddball instead).
This week when I needed 2 total control matches it took 18 matches because it hardly ever appeared but guess what… I had loads of CTF instead.

There’s really no actual data to support theee… theory at the moment.
And yes, Murphy’s law does somewhat apply, but there’s something really fishy going on at times.
We had a period in december to early january where threads would pop up on players being banned for match hopping, in search of a specific game mode. It could range from 12 to 16 matches before a ban, or getting the mode actually needed.
I even saw one player who claimed to have played 32 matches without a single specific Game Mode that was needed for a challenge, think it took the player 35 or 36 matches to get the challenge done, and all the challenge required was completing two matches of the specific mode.
On a personal note, I had to complete a single Stockpile match, and Capture a Flag in CTF. Those were my two challenges. Thought I’d complete it in BTB as it features both Stockpile and CTF. I played and completed 15 consecutive matches of only Slayer and Total Control before a single Stockpile match appeared.
It also feels as if the Challenge system influence who I match with and against.
If I need wins, suddenly the enemy is leagues better than me and my team, or I’m doing fine and my team mates aren’t on the same level as the rest of us. Alternatively I can be put in matches on servers where my ping is horrendous despite having excellent connection before I got the “Win this thing” challenge.
Weapons don’t seem to spawn on maps as often if I need them, or the ping is affecting the hit registration, of course. If I need a Bulldog kill, Heatwaves spawn, etc.
I’m willing to jot it down as pure dumb unluck, but there sure are a lot of suspicious events in this game relating to the challenge system which makes me question it all.
Remember they had to “decouple” the Challenge system from the Playlists in order to more easily implement new playlists.
well 90% of the ppl on this forum are observing the same results, so while we are not 100% sure, at this point it might as well be fact. I mean why else would there only be 4 challenges out of 20 (?) active at once
Had a situation like this with an Oddball challenge. I do suspect the theory holds weight, be it intentional or unintentional, however I noticed this tends to effect me more on a rage inducing level when I have no challenge swaps.
i had the same idea. give us (insert explicit language here) the option to have a btb with the game mode we need/desire.
It feels rigged. Not only do you have to get the game mode but then you have to hope your team isn’t trolling.
Yea they should also add Tactical slayer to the jungle maps like the ones you get to play in BTB. That would spice things up a bit!
I been playing this game so much that I’ve become too fond of the maps and all my play incentive on is character customization.
When I’m finished my weekly quests and cannot unlock anything more I liturally don’t open the game until the following Tuesday when the quests reset and new content is available.
I guess when I purchased the game I thought this would be something I would enjoy playing every single day all the time, but I realize that no matter how much I try to chase the feeling I received when playing halo Reach when it was new, the more I wish I could turn back time to the good ol’ days where I could Jetpack around and Pump shotgun or Railgun people or even Spartan Lazer them.
I really miss those great things that todays Halo has left behind.
