Why can you die when forging?

When you spawn a fire effect, it kills you pretty quick. I’ll bet when I get the hang of the new controls I’ll be able to move out of the way, but right now I spawn one, hesitate because I’m not sure what to do yet, and then get killed and spawn quite a distance away. Just a silly mishap that they should fix for next update, but it does make me wonder:
Why can you die as a monitor?
What purpose does that serve at all? Change the outer map bounds to just invisible walls. It really doesn’t make sense to let a monitor die while forging. As a Spartan testing the map? Absolutely. Monitor? Just seems silly.

Other than that, Forge is wonderful! Still getting the hang of the controls, but man I can’t wait to see what some people dream up with this awesome tool!

From what I recall the monitors always could be killed, not sure about Halo 3, but I know in Reach they could.

Well monitors were always killable, though it would make me chuckle if you could be killed in theater mode. That would actually be cool now that I think about it, like a war photographer mode. 343i you can have my idea free of charge, though I must demand some of those spiffy skins in return.

You’re not wrong. But it still doesn’t make much sense to me.

Dude, let me know what they give you. That’s an awesome idea.

Friends and I used to always mess around killing each other as Monitors. You should test and see if you can still charge a Spartan Laser, switch to monitor, move to a different location and turn back into a Spartan and fire the laser when you turn back. Always did that in Reach it was so much fun

I actually found the outer limits silly. I see so much to build by looking far away…but I cant.

Well, just like every halo from 3 onward, you can die because of this:

  1. to test spawning
  2. Because sometimes players like to goof around in forge and not actually build anything and try and kill each other.

In halo 3 you could even customize the monitor’s strength. Forge was not just for map building but also to act as kind of a sandbox game mode.

true… true…
Still wish I could turn it off. Or at very least get those fire effects to spawn a little farther away so I don’t die as soon as I want to place one haha.
