I’ve seen dozens of threads about this with contributions from hundreds of users, yet so far not even a hint from 343 that they’re even aware of the problem, let alone are actually doing something about it, so I’m gonna start a new thread here.
I have a digital version of the MCC. When I go into the Halo Channel and go to Nightfall, there is no option to play the episode, it just says ‘Buy Halo’. If I click on ‘Buy Halo’ it takes me to the MCC menu for Nightfall. I click on the link to watch Nightfall and it just sends me back to the Halo Channel in an endless loop.
From what everyone has been posting, it seems this state is what happens for disc owners of the game before they input their download code for Nightfall. Once they input the code, Nightfall works - but for those of us that have the digital version of the MCC, obviously there is no code, so we can just ‘float and sputter’, as someone might say…
So this really does seem to be simply that 343/Microsoft just ‘forgot’ that the MCC digital version wouldn’t have a download code, and didn’t even think to put in some kind of ‘marker’ on the digital versions so that the Halo Channel registers them as qualifying for Nightfall - which has to be just about the stupidest oversight I’ve ever heard. I mean, I really cannot fathom the utter stupidity behind this error.
And as I say, so far not even a hint from 343 that they even care about this problem - no doubt more focused on the myriad of matchmaking problems this release is plagued by. Well I say 343 should’ve made sure the damn game WORKED before releasing it, a few bugs here and there are expected but this is beyond a joke.
Ive got the mcc disc and I still can’t watch nightfall
Did you input your code that came in the case?
Nightfall access is broken too. Too many people are reporting the same problem. So far 343 did not adress to this problem.
Maybe they will look into this after fix matchmaking, achievements, terminals, saves…
I have the Same issues with the digital version
I have the disc and had input the code and still will not let me play nightfall say’s it’s installed but just keeps telling me to buy halo and view episodes like to know what’s going on with this so I can just watch it.
My digital copy doesn’t have the “looping” problem, however I still can’t watch Nightfall. Whenever I click on watch, it will skip the video and play the documentary instead. Been like that since launch.

I was experiencing the same issue - then I realized the problem at hand (at least for me).
I have my Xbox One connected to my video capture device (Elgato HD60), and Nightfall most likely has HDCP encryption on it. I plugged my Xbox One directly into the television and it worked fine.

Congratulation on finally being able to watch it. However, in my case, my Xbox is directly connected to the TV and there’s no capture device either. So no dice for me.

Nightfall is kill, thou cannot see while blinded by darkness.
Just tried now, I can finally watch Nightfall, although the video quality drop to SD and back up to HD frequently. Then around 4 minutes into it, it just stop. At first I thought the Halo Channel app froze, but that doesn’t seems to be the case. I can view the playback control on screen but when I pause and play, it doesn’t continue. It just… stuck there.
Bummer.
Got an update yesterday for Halo Channel. I thought it would fix the problem but still the same. Can’t watch any Nightfall.
