Why can I not view film files on computer?

I was attempting a machinima project, however I cannot afford a capture device. It said I in a post I could download a file share file on my computer but that’s only for screenshots. Does anyone have any alternative ways to solve this problem?

Do you realize that halo 4 clips are game engine recreations of what happened and not film formats?

Well, obviously he doesn’t.

Unfortunately OP, no, there is no way. The theater clips, where you can detach the camera and what-not is part of the game engine and not actually a media file of any sort as erickyboo pointed out. So your computer wouldn’t know what to do with it.

To record what is on the screen, you do need a capture card. They’re pretty cheap, I saw an HD one for around $40-$50 (since Xbox One has a DVR built in, I’m sure the demand for them will drop and thus the price). So unless you live outside the U.S. you can snatch one up pretty reasonably at Best Buy or through Amazon.

So short of setting up a camera in front of your TV, you’re going to need a capture card.
