So I’ve been thinking, why does Atriox do illogical things if he is trying to kill the Spirit of Fire? Then this idea came up, Atriox is a good guy. Atriox arrived on the Ark 5 months after the portal closed, which could be explained due to the time it would take traveling there after Cortana takes over the galaxy. Atriox and his rebels arrive, find a UNSC base with an AI, and this could be explained by Atriox thinking Isabel is with the Created along with the rest of the research station. When the Spirit of Fire arrives, Atriox hides and doesn’t reveal himself until Red Team takes Isabel, which in Atriox’s mind could mean they sided with the Created. After Red Team takes Isabel, Atriox reveals himself and attempts to disable, not destroy, the Spirit of Fire. Atriox attempts to flee on the Halo ring, maybe to use it as a mobile base for the resistance against the Created, and is stopped by Cutter and the Team. All in all, it looks like Atriox, still being the brute he is, assumed the research base was with the Created because they were still using an AI, Attempts to stop what looks like Created reinforcements, flee with the remainder of his resistance, and he doesn’t actively try to kill the Spirit of Fires crew until they get Isabel. So maybe Atriox is trying to build and lead a resistance against Cortana, and ended up fighting the Spirit of Fire due Tobho a misunderstanding. That is just my Theory, what is your guys’ thoughts?
I always wondered why the Enduring Conviction didn’t Destroy the Spirit of Fire too.
They just sent Banshees to attack them.

I had a friend explain that Atriox possibly board and take the Spirit of Fire rather than destroy it. Which makes sense considering how the Banished have been built on scavenging.

See, that is what was the first thing that seemed odd about the situation. And here’s a creepy thought, Isabel is with the Created, and is pitting the Spirit of Fire against the Banished to weaken two birds with one stone.
What I love from Halo Wars 2 is that for me, there is no “good” or “bad”. It is just this bunch of people making their best to find their way in the galaxy. If you listen well to Atriox he is indeed a great leader, he doesn’t decimate you just because you are his enemy but he tries to pursue and understand other leader ambitions. For instance, you have a good dialog with Cutter in the Halo mission I believe, where Atriox let Cutter go away, but Cutter (super American style, let’s say UNSC style (buuuuu, don’t like 0q0)) wants to take the ARK under “his protection”… well for me this is out of logic, because during all those months Atriox was in the ARK he just wanted to research its secrets, but never explain for what purpose bad or good.
If you have haven’t read the comics do it. I good love some famous psychologist to do an examination to this character hahaha he is indeed great for the Halo Universe. I just hope nobody kill him in the first 10 min of a game (cough* julamdama cough*)

Never trust a red AI.
BlinxESP, there’s always a good or bad, just look at the actions of individuals to decide which they are.
Atriox,(according to Isabel) killed defenseless people, that makes him a murderer, hence making him evil. But that being said we never got visual evidence of his crimes against the science team. So we don’t know for sure if he’s bad or not

I like you’re ideas on this. This would be an interesting plot twist for sure. I guess we will see how it all pans out in the next Halo game.

Yes exactly, she could have been lying. There is no evidence to show he killed anyone (as far as I know). I also font think they would make a character who turned against the covenant (much like arbiter) “bad”, why would Atriox hate humans? Only reason for covenant to kill humans was for the prophets “religion” with the forerunner tech and Halo rings.
I would have to replay the game again, but I dont remember if Atriox wanted to use the ring or not, and for what purpose.

The Phoenix logs show atriox killing the scientists.
Except during the Decimus boss fight he said after he kills them, they’re going to use the Ark as a means to take over their worlds.

Decimus could be meaning taking their worlds over from the Created.

But who wrote the Phoniex Logs? And who said Isabel didn’t edit their contents?
Quite simply based on the OP’s premise it’s not possible. Atriox has a very clear motivation of seizing power and control for himself particularly in consolidating power on Dosiac. The Rise of Atriox comics and the one within Tales from Slipspace further this motivation of being top dog. Gaining assets from the Ark is part of his plans for conquest. The reason why it’s impossible for Atriox to be fighting against the Created is because he went to the Ark before the Created uprising even occurred. He wouldn’t even be aware. That can simply be deduced by the fact that he obviously didn’t take the portal at Voi. So it means that he had to go the long way via direct slipspace route which would have taken some time… Time in which the Enduring Conviction would be isolated and unaware of events going on within the galaxy while en route to the Ark. Regardless of where his morality and ethics lay, it’s clear enough he’s an antagonistic force regardless to anyone that interferes or merely happens to be in the way of his power plays as evident in Halo Wars 2.

I haven’t read any of the Atriox comics, so all I have to go on is the game. The game has it set up as a possibility, where Atriox could have left right as Cortana sent her message and arrived on the Ark 5 months later.

Exactly. The first ‘red’ UNSC AI we met was Rampant Cortana, so red so far has represented bad, and Isabel just so happens to be red, maybe to signify her on the side of the Created.

It also said the traditional way of getting to the Ark took months. So you’re absolutely right.
I think Atriox and his Banished are the best thing 343 has created so far.I wouldn’t say Atriox is good but he is also not evil like the Covenant were,or even UNSC with their Spartan project. For me he is just a great leader that does what is best for his group.
