Not too long ago, I posted a thread about UNSC weapons being outdated, and now I’m posting another thread regarding the UNSC. Why haven’t they reversed engineered covenant weapons? Many battles have taken place on the human colonies, and I’m sure the UNSC have won some of those battles, which leads me to think that they would scavenge some covenant weapons right? The human-covenant war lasted around 30 years and has resumed at the time of halo 4, no? Couldn’t they have reversed engineered some covenant weaponry during that time?
And what about the forerunners and their tech? The UNSC couldn’t have collected tech during halo ce, due to the halo ring being destroyed, but couldn’t they have scavenged some forerunner tech in halo 2? I don’t see any mention of reverse engineering in the halo universe or games. I would have loved to see UNSC weapons that mock covenant/forerunner tech, but sadly bungie, nor 343 has taken advantage of this. The UNSC could have collected even more tech and weaponry from the forerunners when they found the ark and when the infinity crash landed on requiem. I really hope I see some reverse engineering in halo 5, because it would add realism to this marvelous universe and story.
They are actually reverse engineering Covenant and Forerunner technology. Spartan energy shield’s are reverse engineered from Jackal shields. The Infinity also has Covie and Forerunner parts in it’s engine.
The reason they don’t have much more than that, is because they’ve been having a really hard time simply understanding how any of that technology even works.

It is 2552, 500 years from now! Think of the possibilities! They should be able to duplicate most covenant tech to a certain extent
A lot of the technology in the Halo universe is actually Forerunner, even covenant tech. It’s just difficult for anyone to grasp. Species like the grunts didn’t even have space travel capabilities until the covenant came around I believe. Humans are tier 3 civilizations, prophets and elites are 2 (I think) forerunner are 1, and just about everyone else is 3 or below.
Funny story actually, Brutes were space fairing but busted themselves down to the stone age, only to barely recover to tier 3 before they joined the covenant.
I believe artificial gravity tech without rotating sections was also reverse engineered. Rotating sections were quite common in Fall of Reach, and I believe Spartans even marvel at artificial gravity tech of the covenant when they first board a covie ship. Somehow humans seem to have gotten a great grasp of that seeing as how ever ship in the games has it.

Hahaha, Now I’m interested in finding out the lore behind brutes!

I was always wondering how ships in science fiction generated gravity without a rotating centrifuge. But then I remember, oh wait! It’s 2552! They have to have stuff like that in the future lol
Amazing how in 2558, even with access to Forerunner and Covenant tech-much of it reverse engineered, Humanity is still considered a Tier 3 race. We should be Tier 2 by now.

I think by 2558 Humanity is at a early form of teir 2.

Don’t quote me entirely on that. I’m still iffy having read the guide that came with H2 limited so long ago. They may have been tier 2, but I believe that’s advanced space fairing and empirical building beyond what humans were, while tier 3 was basic space fairing and colinisation. If anyone knows for sure please correct me.

your right circa 2553-2557… humanity became early tier 2 after the completion of the UNSC Infinity
It’s hard to reverse engineer weapons when you don’t understand them. From the very begging the UNSC has been trying with covenant tech but has limited success. Why is why the Infinity is such a slap in the face canon wise. They don’t understand how a Needler or Plasma Pistol works but can slap on Forerunner engines like no tomorrow?

In halo it’s a bit like forerunner stuff is there to be used as a resource. Covenant took so much from forerunner tech. And think about halo wars.
The jackal shield gauntlet had a kind of anti-hacking system, it’s all described in halsey’s journal. And now I think we understand most of standard covenant weapons.
As for OP, we are reverse engeneering and ONI has been doing it since years.
