(Why) Are you still playing?

Last night I was still playing and caught myself asking myself why a couple times, then remembered I was trying to grind my way up Ranked.

But I know a lot of people have quit for the time being, and I know some probably won’t even come back.

Anyway, I was wondering if YOU, yes, you, are still playing. And if so, why?

Also “fun” is an acceptable answer but a painfully boring one. Games are designed to be “fun”; you could have “fun” with any game in the world. Especially games that respect their players. That’d be cool. Do that.

But for everyone else, I’m wondering what your more interesting answers are.

Because I firmly believe this game will have a long and incredible future. I want to play it, get better at it, enjoy it and create memories I can reflect on when the game has evolved down the line.

Also, I’m having fun. I play whatever game is fun. For multiplayer I like competitive close games for ranked and fun relaxing games for social. This has both things I need to enjoy multiplayer.

Because the gameplay is enjoyable, and for me as a player, that’s all I really care about.

For me, I’ve slowed down since my weeklies are nearly done. (I have one more before the ultimate challenge but I don’t feel like doing it so just not going for challenges) The reason I do still play a match here and there though is indeed for fun.

I care a lot about customization, its just a fun aspect to most games for me. Its a little boring seeing the intro play and my squamates are "default gray, “default red”, and “default anniversary green with emblem on chest”. Not a huge deal, but still wish I could see people’s individual spartans like we used to.

But until then, I am playing because despite one of my favorite aspects being fairly boring at the moment, the game is just so darn fun. The gunplay feels good, I’m enjoying the maps, the modes are a little sparse but enjoyable. I manage to pull off great moments you just can’t really get in other franchises. The main reason I’m not playing as much is because I don’t want to burn myself out before the event starts. Not sure exactly what the event will have but I’m looking forward to it.

Because it’s fun. Sorry for the boring answer.

But for real, there ARE other games, but I always come back to Halo. It can’t be helped; I’m set in my ways.

Despite the poor customization and lame progression, the core gameplay is phenomenal and when I want to play Halo, Infinite will be the game for now. I can very easily NOT participate in the peripheral stuff and just play the game. I don’t care enough about customization to jump ship or feed money into it.

I’m sure I’ll find my way back into Guardians and MCC eventually, but for now Infinite is fresh.

I’m playing this because I’ve played 5 and MCC for too many years.

Sure progression and some other areas need work but I greatly enjoy the gameplay of halo more than I tend to enjoy many other shooters. Big team battle in particular is a blast especially if you bring friends along

I play Infinite because it’s free lol

I’m averaging 1-3 matches a day right now. Just not that into this Halo. I see how it can be so much better though

Because I like the way the game feels. The gameplay itself is exciting for me and I enjoy the hell out of it. But everything surrounding the core gameplay is just…dragging the experience down slowly.

  • The slow progression of the pass
  • Restrictive customization
  • Playlists not being separated (I’m tired of playing CTF at this point)
  • Shop prices and seeing Bots wearing things we can’t even get yet (Like, CQC and Hazop are in-game already but we can’t get them?)

I love the game at the core, it’s my favorite multiplayer since Reach, but everything else is bogging the experience down to the point where I’m close to quitting until things are addressed.

I’m playing because the game is genuinely fun, but that fun doesn’t delude me into ignoring the very prominent problems the game currently has & I hope they are addressed soon.

Dawg, I couldn’t give you a straight answer if I tried.

I’m only playing because I’d like to have Halo for 10 years. But with all the bulljive happening with the monetization, customization and progression systems, I just don’t know anymore.

I don’t know why I’m still playing. The multiplayer is good and all, but the other systems are so, SO bad.

Because obviously I love the gameplay but I also have a specific goal. The battle pass progression is incredibly slow but I still want to recreate my armor set from Halo Reach that I played with for many MANY years. Reach was the Halo game I played the most as a kid and with my family and the battle pass has given the necessary pieces for me to recreate what my spartan looked like.

Honestly only here because BF2042 failed so hard. It was the free alternative, and while I’ve played every halo since launch, it still can’t satiate that large scale warfare itch (not should it ever be expected to).

Unfortunately for me, all of my friends have already lost interest, so I’m here grinding the ranks alone… Which sucks.

Might just go back to Dota2.

To be boring, but because it’s fun. I’m not a great Halo MP player by any stretch of the imagination, and I’m not likely ever to be amazing.

But with Infinite I actually do better than I have in Reach or 3’s MPs in the last year I’ve started playing. I can feel that despite my coordination problems my skills are growing and I’m improving.

Plus it’s my first Halo release (I only started the series in 2020) and I’m excited to be a part of it.

I mean you’re spending your time.

That is incredibly lucky. They don’t even give us the pieces to make several of the Reach spartans look right.

Because, I love halo & im splitting my time between battlefield 2042 & Halo Infinite. SO when I get bored of halo I switch to 2042.

Honestly… getting to my ‘play 15 games in pvp’ capstone challenge was so liberating. I’d been so frustrated and felt like I was toiling with a lot of the mode-specific ones.

Flip of the switch I was suddenly enjoying the games so much more, playing the objectives more (which is usually my forte), using the weapons I wanted to, not the ones I needed to
