Why are you so against a new version of zoom?

When people first played Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer BEta, people didnt like the mechanic they thought, or assumed was ADS (Aim Down Sight). 343 later said its not…just the zoom function with the scope attached as a new visual feature. I agree with it for the most part, but because of the scope there, it feels really similar to ADS, yet if 343 makes the animation faster, it will be just like old fashioned zoom.

So why do you guys think ADS can be a bad thing if its made similar to Call of Duty, Destiny, Battlefield, TF, and C&C? I am not saying I think its perfect…I kinda like it, but I am more inclined to play with hip firing and traditional zooming without a different animation. Just because a game has one or two traits that are “similar” to another popular FPS doesnt mean it shouldnt be in it.

Edit 1: HOLY COW…my first big response from the Community here  I didnt expect to be trending on Waypoint with this thread haha.
Edit 2: Bottom line is that I see two sides to this: some people like ADS but prefer the old zoom mechanic, while the other side doesnt appreciate the change made even if it isnt a huge change. Personally, I kinda enjoyed the freshness of the Smart Scope in H5s Beta, but I didnt like how big the redicules were on all the Beta weapons. They need to be smaller so headshots and body shots are toughter to get.

Because it makes Halo into a shameless COD clone. I for one will not be buying Halo 5. I’m going to go into my closet and pray to my copy of Halo 2. I even have candles and everything. Just kidding I’m really freakin excited for Halo 5. I really enjoyed the beta.

The trend with a series is always that the so called “veteran” fans will hate anything new while other open minded people will play the game and have fun.
It’s always been this way. I think there was a website dedicated to hating halo 2 when it originally released(LOL). So nothing to worry about

because it’s awful & unnecessary

because they won’t finish and fix HTMCC.

Had 343i just made a full H2A, I’d have still hoped for H3A, but rest assured, I would not be concerned with or -Yoinking!- about your favorite evolutionary failures.

I thought it was a great addition to the game. Had a blast in the beta

See you in HTMCC, CoD, Destiny, BF, GTA Online, and for a few weeks again in Halo 6.

I understand that you are an older gentleman, and are very opinionated and for the most part rightfully justified to be angry, but don’t rub your pessimism onto others. It is unbecoming.

As for this thread, I am fully looking forward to H5, and I am confident it will not turn out like MCC.

Older gentleman, eh? Oh I’m just offering the same pep talk I’ve received from the younger gentlemen here in this “optimistic” kinda Halo community

Smart-Link was a cool edition, I really liked the animation for the AR. I’m not concerned at all that it will turn out like Cod, I played the Beta and it felt like a new kind of halo, still more like halo than cod.

ADS in my opinion is fine the way we had it in earlier, but it really doesn’t change much besides bringing in more and new people. Most modern players are turned off by the classic zoom, well because it’s classic, and feels cheap and out of date to them.

Many people Don’t know that the zoom is connected to the lore and makes sense, they just see it as a old mechanic.

And many people say that by adding sprint, and ADS it turns halo into a generic shooter, and that its not halo anymore. But back in the classic halo day’s, not having sprint, and ADS, was generic as well, I guess what makes it special is that it stands out as unique because it’s a old mechanic now.

In my opinion smart scope is ADS, because you look down your gun, but it’s just a fancy animation that in no way destroys halo.

As for the zoom bonuses, they are not attached specifically to ADS. What I mean is you can have ads, or classic zoom with or without the bonus zoom damage.

Overall I’m fine with the new zoom, but I will kinda miss the classic way, where I can see the full screen. It’s a little bittersweet for me. But I think it will help with the population.

I quite liked it except for the DMR and the Sniper Rifle (the Light Rifle looked Yoinking awesome!)

343i is making Smart scope alot less clunky in the full game so it should be just as instant as ever. Don’t worry

It was really an unnecessary choice, only meant to get fans from other games to try halo. Changed something unique to halo that I always loved.

The answer is simple: The ‘new’ smart-scope is not effective at good distance. Smart-link is more flexible regarding that.

If we show support for this new ‘zoom’, then I won’t be surprised when they give us full blown ADS by Halo 6.

With the introduction of 343’s ads there are 3 things that changes from the older Halo’s.

  1. Reduction of spread. 2. The zoom is slower. 3. The zoom covers up about 25%-50% of your screen dependent on weapon, and you can’t see players walking there.

If they removed number 1, made the zoom faster, and made whoever walked into the 25% to 50% of your screen where you can’t see them shine through your weapon (Like Promethean vision) then it would only be change in look, until then it’s not similar to what we had, or what COD has.

If we show support to this now, then the next thing 343 would want to add in, in Halo 6 is full ADS.

Same.

I consider myself a veteran player. And I just have to ask WHY? I’ve played through every halo…also read the reviews on multiple sites, and back in the 1, and 2 days read all the magazines…I don’t remember anyone ever complaining about the classic zoom. Not once! That leads me to believe that if it is not broken, and everyone playing the game is fine with it and enjoys it that they are merely doing this to “fit in” with the genre. To me that is short sited and stupid. On top of that fitting in with the genre has done nothing to help them with population numbers. Refer to Halo 4’s abysmal population loss.

Lol had me there for a sec. I see you post all over the forums so I had reread that like three times.
