I always found them to be boring and uninteresting to fight compared to the covenant. Why are we even fighting them in the first place?
The covenant had very clear motives in the Bungie Halo games. An army of aliens being manipulated by religious zealots who’ve made their followers believe in a “Great Journey” that will end in the destruction of the galaxy? Heck yeah, bring it on. But, the prometheans, why? I understood in Halo 4, the Didact was still hellbent on the destruction of humanity, and used Requiem’s constructs to further his plans. But now the Didact, presumably the last Forerunner, is dead. With the exception of the Didact, the Forerunners decided that Humanity was to carry the mantle. They even gave humanity dominion over the Halo array (we can activate them), it stands to reason that that Dominion extends over all remaining Forerunner structures doesn’t it? So, shouldn’t we be able to deactivate the prometheans, or even use them ourselves? Am I off base with this or should humanity be in control of the prometheans?
The Didact isn’t dead, just contained somewhere after being composed. Yes, read Escalations, but go read his Universe entry here. As for why we fight then, Jul 'Mdama had control over them thanks to the Didact, but the Warden Eternal and Cortana now seem to have them under their sway.

The Didact is still alive. His fight to keep the mantle is still ongoing. That’s why Prometheans are still a threat. It’s apart of the Reclaimer Saga. As far as them being boring while we can agree to disagree on that.
Plot holes man. I hope they explain this in game instead of making us read the EU. I got nothin’ wrong with the EU, just everyone doesn’t have access to it, you feel me?

I am convinced that the Didact is still behind it all.
I think they really came into their own as an enemy type in Halo 5. They were more interesting to fight than the Covenant IMO.
Storywise, they are just a staple of the Reclaimer Saga and 343i’s Halo. They (kind of) make sense where they are. In a way, they make more sense than the Covenant do story wise (at this point at least).
I just wish they would turn blue again, I like blue.
In seriousness, though, I feel Halo 5 they were much better enemies, though the covenant (Elites, Grunts, jackels) are still my favorite. I wouldn’t mind a return of the drones and brutes though. Maybe a Brute ran faction of the covenant or something. Imagine a swarm of jetpack brutes and drones attacking from all angles, be pretty sweet.
My issue with the prometheans is that the different types are completely interchangeable. With the covenant, there is a chain of command, and there is a reason for that chain of command. That have them personality. With the prometheans, we have nothing to set the different types apart. The games don’t even tell us why there are different kinds.
