Why are we angry?

So far in Halo games i’ve noticed that most of the players are getting always angrier and saltier.
What’s going on with the Community?
I know that everybody wants to prove they’re better than the others and i’m fine with competition in general but isn’t this getting too far away?
I personally play Halo in my free time because i love the series and want to have fun playing it and i always meet people that can’t even stay in a multiplayer game’s chat because of their poor behavior.
Obviously i’m not talking about in-game body disrespect as it has always been part of Halo, i’m talking about pre-game and post-game behavior that sometimes leaves me speechless. I mean, you win, there’s no reason to say “son of a b**** you suck i owned you” as well as if you lose there’s no reason to say “1v1, you’re just lucky, you’re bad”.
Just say GG and let it go, we’re all here to have fun playing and nobody is a pro as there are only 32 players that can be considered such so just chill.

This is how i play also. I generally queue solo and start a party with myself because of how toxic people are most of the time. Those type of players have always been around but it does seem to have got worse in the past few years.

Internet culture/The power of Anonymity (for the most part). Simple as that. You’ll never see this many people this angry on a day to day basis in real life because (most) people do not behave the same way as they do online. Poor/Toxic behavior is part of the online gaming community. It’s not going anywhere ever.

It does. Also i would say that the fun part of online gaming, now called ESPORTS is that sportsmanlike behavior does not exist…

Esports have been around a very long time. There was behaviour like that for just as long if not longer. There werent as many as now but i remember a fair share of awful people from H2, Ghost Recon and Battlefront 2 back in the day.

If people would behave like this in the real world, they would be arrested pretty soon.
But in the internet, you are anonym.
So,you can act like you want hidden behind an mask.
Its easy to blame someone for just winning out of luck, without seeing that it has something to do with you.

I think if more of us spoke out like you did here… it would become a more frowned upon act and hopefully those who do it would feel a bit of guilt. I agree that good sportsmanship is fun and healthy, especially in a game where you are fighting and killing enemy players. In addition… it’s not about being the best… it’s about having fun. In the end of the day, the numbers on a screen aren’t real, and those who value them so greatly such as to disrespect and look down upon others truly are the ones who lost and are living an illusion. If their feeling of fun comes at the expense of other people’s comfort… I mean… come on guys. Get responsible and have mutual respect. It isn’t about political correctness… it’s about building a community we love.

I dont believe that would change anything because of the anonymity that the internet provides. There is no real consequence for someone being a -Yoink- over xbox live. You can report them but it rarely does anything.

Absolutely true. But I would think that everyone has some moral compass even when not being watched. If we just accept that it’s going to happen, nothing will change… except maybe it may evolve into something worse. If we condemn it and keep shedding light on the topic, chances are, they might become more aware of it and cut back a little or stop it from becoming something worse if not stopping it entirely. Wouldn’t you agree?

Sadly this time of banter exists in any game, the worst ones I’ve seen were in GTA 5 where people all sorts just because I’m not in their clan. I’ve seen it in H5 sometimes, well it’s part of the reason why I mostly stick to party chat.

I think part of the reason people are upset it because a lot of us are not happy with the current state of the halo franchise and the year in general (for gaming). We just witnessed some of the lowest sales in the franchise’s history, 343 has been largely silent throughout the past few months and has largely ignored us, Halo 3 Anniversary didn’t happen, we have almost no news on the development of Halo 6 (and I doubt we’ll get any news anytime soon), and the year in general has been absolutely TERRIBLE for gaming.

Ignore it. There’s more sausage within online communities than Oktoberfest. I have no idea why your complaining to us. We’re not five year olds who need to be put on the naughty step. We’re not swearing. We like you. But not in that way.

Tell them “//// off you sore loser” deny messages (and love) and mute them from your profile. Then grab a drink with some wings and chill. For Science.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the anger being directed at ‘IamCracktale@halowaypoint.wort’.

I’m not complaining to you. I just wanted to know what are your thoughts about this.

I love and always will love it i dont care whos making the game i will always enjoy halo for being halo (if that makes sense)
People have the just accept 343 and not complain to much
343 is great addition the halo they added many great things into the game
Im a really good player and i always get hate messages and get report cuz i kicked -Yoink- people just have to accept that im better than them and not report me simply cuz im good
All i wanna say is that the halo community needs to be together and not hate each other for their opinions

and this is why I mute everyone. also why I stick to social and warzone. on a side note, it’s still better than the behavior in destiny so congrats 343, you’ve got a small win over bungie.

What anger? I don’t see any anger. Everybody has responded very respectfully and honestly and nobody is hating on him in the slightest.

Talking about the anger being directed to him or her online while playing Halo 5, not anyone here.

I’m salty about bad updates like ruining breakout!

Um, I’m not angry…

I think most people who play Halo aren’t angry and don’t even use the forums. With that said, we have been playing this game over and over for over 2 years now. No game will live up to 100% of everyone’s expectations and desires, and as time goes on, the flaws of a game will become more and more apparent. Regardless, more of the vocal community should really learn to accept the minor flaws, and put things into a more positive perspective; i.e., we have the most robust Multiplayer of any Halo game: we have 60fps, a whole suite of precision weapon options, well-executed next-gen movement abilites, a beautiful Smart-Link system, tons of customization, a wonderful focus on Arena gameplay alongside an epic 24 player Player vs Player vs AI game mode, and more! My personal favorite feature of Halo 5, besides the badass Achilles armor, is the suite of awesome Assassinations, because Mortal Kombat was a childhood favorite of mine, and Assassinations make me feel like I’m busting out an OG Mortal Kombat Fatality move! At this point in the series, I think it’s all about having perspective on how far the series has come. Halo 5 is a great game that is the culmination of over a decade and a half of Halo combat evolution…see what I did there at the end? Combat Evolved! W007! <3
