At this point the game has basically become a REQ system based game with RPs, seeing of the only point of ranking up is getting more RP or a Rank Requisition. It’s not even like you can tell how good a player is by there rank, I’m a rank 50 or 60 something and I’m not the best player however looking at my rank alone you wouldn’t know that.
Halo Reach was like this. Rank just shows how much you play, not how good you are. That’s all.
division in arena shows how good you are really and even that is flawed.
It’s a badge of dedication, not necessarily an indicator of skill. I’ve been playing pretty much daily since launch and just hit 60 over the weekend.
To make kiddies feel superior to one another
It serves literally no purpose. It just another checkbox on 343s list.
Ranking system? Check
Skill system? Check
Microtransactions? Check
RNG progression? Check
All of the above suck, but they don’t care. They made their money.
Because progression system. It’s not intended to be a skill ranking, we have a separate system for that.

Ranking up earns you nothing but some emblems, that is not progression. If it gave you a pack with a guaranteed piece of armour, or a weapon you should have by that rank (Viper armour-no skin- or the DMR for example). If it was like that I would be happy. But ranking up give you no reward, there is no real incentive to keep playing other than trying your luck in the RNG. That’s all it is.

That’s a contradiction. How is it not a progression system?

I clearly said there is no real incentive. Emblems aren’t really much of an incentive. Progression should have incentive, hence why the population is so low. There is no reason to play this game when other games have far better progression systems.
And you don’t mention my idea to improve this at all, instead you proceed to cherry pick lines.
Bring back the Vidmasters haha, at least they were entertaining and provided some sort of sense of achievement once they were accomplished.

This
And armour unlocked through commendations, legendary, and ranks.

Another contradiction, and you didn’t answer my question.
It is a progression system, however, it is very minimalist, much like earlier Halo games. This can be either a good or a bad thing, depending on your perspective.

Can you read? I said Emblems are not incentive enough to rank up, therefore there is no real incentive. Your question was answered clearly, as I feel the lack of progression is due to the lack of incentive and the reward (emblems ) for ranking up. But seeing as you are ignoring ideas to improve the game, and instead you are cherry picking lines.
Why not comment on my idea to improve the incentives to rank up instead of cherry picking, or have you not played the game enough to notice?

So now you edit your post, too late as I already quoted it
But in terms of halo 5, it does not work well, as any progress is mostly made through RNG, and ranks have no influence there.
Ill say my idea again, to have ranks give guaranteed, non skin armour, that you should have by that rank. So for example, I see the vast majority of people rank 50 and above have say security armour or viper armour (they don’t look the best, it’s just an example)- but I am yet to get a single piece. Now say, if rank 40 gave you the viper armour, and 50 gave you security, and the req packs gave you skins for them, wouldn’t that be better?

Not really, I already get packages of much more interesting and useful stuff when I go up a level.

Like what? One use cards that any rank lower than you can get?
I was a Strike Commander in Halo 3. Was quite proud of all that extra XP I earned that set me apart from a regular Commander Grade 3. Wish I could of been a Force Colonel though or even better a Brigadier General.

That is what’s missing from this game. The sense of accomplishment/progression. I have put so much time into this game, and because of the RNG system, have hardly anything to show for it. You see someone with legendary armour, and instead of thinking/saying that they earned it or that it’s hard to get, it’s simply that they got lucky in a pack or they paid for it. I’ve seen quite a few people rank 20-30 with Mark IV…
They should at least have armour for doing halo 5 legendary, and getting all skulls and Intels. Like helioskrill for MCC
