Serious question. Why? And I don’t what to sound like some hateful, angry fan here, I’m legitimately curious why perks were ever added to Halo and even crazier how the community is totally down with it. Who ever, in all of Halo’s existence, ever thought, “Gee, the one thing that Halo needs are some kind of abilities that emulate the perk system in Call of Duty, you know, those things that were really well received by gamers and everyone totally loved them. Right?”. Back on B.net that would get you crucified, and often people even joked about perks being next after sprint, or progressive ranks, or whatever.
Well here they are. Am I truly alone in thinking that they’re largely really pointless? I think anybody who’s ever played CoD knows that inevitably certain perks will rise to the top and be considered more powerful than their peers and ultimately everyone ends up using the same ones. It’s pointless! The sense of customization only exists for a month or so until everyone figures out which combo is best. Even worse is when certain ones end up being extremely OP, a la Last Stand, Commando, etc… If you’ve played those games then I don’t need to remind you that it TOTALLY SUCKS!
So that’s it /rant. Why do guys think 343 added perks, and furthermore are you okay with it?
Because halo 4 needs to be refreshing… otherwise it would be just like COD.
LOL Ironic as that sounds Its a toned down version of what many fps’s use. So while it makes me uneasy i find it necessary.
I say it would be similar to cod in the fact that It hardly ever evolves.
This is the 5th installment (6 if you include ODST) and two more will follow.
Some people are too blind with fanboyism to see it from a game maker’s perspective.
I’d rather them not be there… but hopefully they just balance it good so it doesn’t matter… I mean some of them like unlimited sprint is just dumb… because it’s going to encourage people to sprint more -use it or lose it- and they are going to get destroyed sprinting into a gunfight
Because the game needs to continue to evolve. By sticking with the same formula it gets boring. Sure you’ll have fans who say nothing should have changed from Halo CE but those people are ignorant.
Perks are a logical inclusion to the loadout system which has been revamped and made much more appealing. I think they fit right in with the Halo sandbox, and fully expect to enjoy their benefits come November
The “Perks” in Halo 4 have a much more subtle effect on gameplay compared to Call of Duty’s perks. It’s not like you can drop a live Plasma Grenade upon death or anything.
The perks are called Specialisations I believe, or Mods. Not sure.
We haven’t seen any of the perks in action yet, we just know what some of them do. Many people say the game still feels like Halo so you should wait for it to actually come out and then ask why does Halo “copy” CoD.
I view it as something that helps bring more customization to your Spartan.
The specializations are supposed to be balenced.
i think it will be a nice change of pace that will only be in a few gametypes
i don’t think it’ll be a game-breaking advantage, like cod’s carpet bombs, etc
but if you get a SAW or rail gun from a drop, it might just be a pretty fun addition
I don’t see them as OP like cod. I think they can have a place in halo if done right. Curious as to way you chose now to speak out against it, but other than that, it was just another feature added to re-freshen halo. I don’t see anyone else trying to create successful new ideas to the halo franchise that would replace AAs and etc. Every time people oppose AAs they go back to straight up classic settings, but don’t propose something new that the majority and minority would like. I think they did well taking halo in another direction…better than where Reach was trying to go.

It’s CoD now.

Name one CoD game where the arsenal was balanced. Because I’ve played all of them and I cant think of even one.

There’s a bit of irony in that post.
In order to not be CoD, it has to adopt a feature from CoD? For the record, I have no real issue with the perks so far, but Resupply should be default.

get out

So to keep Halo fresh and new, they implement an old gameplay mechanic from 2007 that CoD invented? I don’t think anyone would call Halo 4 stagnant if it kept all the existing features except perks, tbh.
> Because halo 4 needs to be refreshing… otherwise it would be just like COD.
In the way that it would stay true to itself. Now it’s trying to adopt actual CoD mechanics. And no CoD is not the first or only game to have perks, but can you find me a more popular FPS that does?
If you stick with the same old formula every time, then things get really boring. They’re in there to keep things fresh.

Um, dude that was my point. It’s INBALANCED. In CoD 4 everyone uses Stopping Power or Juggernaut, Black Ops was dominated by Ghost Pro, Modern Warfare 2 was just god-awful and I don’t think we need to touch on that one.

CoD didn’t invent -Yoink-. They took their gameplay set up from games like Quake, Counter Strike, and Battlefield. And Halo.
Really, the perks revealed so far aren’t game breaking. The have extra ammo, extra grenades, two primaries, something to continue to see the motion sensor while scoped, and unlimited sprint. Not too bad. Calm your -Yoink-.
EDIT: Add other perks for me if I missed any. But I think that’s all that’s been revealed.

That was my point overall. Why compare it CoD when CoD obviously has no balances to begin with. I’ve played Halo 4 at RTX and it felt much better than Halo Reach in terms of gameplay and better than CoD in terms of balance
