Why Are There No Memorable NEW Maps?

Something that’s been on my mind for awhile is why are ther no memorable new Halo 5 maps? Now what I mean by this is (and this might just be me) I couldn’t name you maybe even five of the original Halo 5 maps as I could name all of the maps in Halo 2 or Reach. And the only reason I could name you the Halo 5 maps is because I have played them so many times. I’m criticising this game because I love it. I want 343 to come out with an amazing map or a few that you will remember forever! Something as memorable as Blood Gulch even!

Now there are two main reasons I think this hasn’t happened yet.

  • There’s not as much care being put into maps as there is thought(that’s extremely debatable) - The player count is far far lower than it was from Halo 2 all the way to maybe halfway through Halo 4’s life cycle. All of these topics i’ve brought up are4 directed towards 343’s map designers NOT the community.
I really think it’s for the better that 343 has started putting in community maps and recreations. Maybe for Halo 6 we’ll have our 343 ultimate map.
We can only hope( Or complain about it on the forums  )

Thoughts?

Halo 5 hasn’t been out that long. Classic maps weren’t instantly classics. People had to play them and like them and play them over and over again. It takes time for this to happen. Blood gulch has had a variant in halo 2 and reach. Three halo games worth of nostalgia. More if you’re one of those people who think of Valhalla as a blood gulch remake. To borrow a line, “These things take time…”

off the to of my head
Stormbreak, Arc, Apex 7, Noxus, Darkstar
Eden, Empire, Truth, Regret, Colosseum, Rig, Fathom, Plaza
Riptide, Overgrowth, Torque, Tyrant, Stasis

I don’t play much WZA so I don’t know those maps.

My top 5 favorite maps

  • Battle of Noctus (Best Warzone Map)
- Stasis (I love the plasma rifle and recon DMR) - Truth and Regret (Reminds me of Zealot from Reach) - Raid on Apex 7 (Reminds me of Death Island) -
Glacier (A very nice snow forge map)

Halo 5 has the absolute worst set of maps in any halo game.

yep, the arena / BTB maps in particular are terrible

aside from dull design, the autos, and tight corridors full of spartan charging kids are just unplayable

Reach without a doubt is the worst. Gems like Swordbase Boardwalk and other maps ripped from campaign were painful to play.

Boardwalk was okay. Sword base is by far the worst map in the history of halo.

I like Stasis quite a bit though I prefer apex to noctus.

This is truly a situation in which some good emotes would be the most effective method of expressing my mental distress. I’ll just have to go with (;_:wink:

I agree.

Well…when you use the same blue print for 4 out of the 5 maps…what do you expect? They are all UNSC station based levels, same robot-Tron look in every level.

IMO, I think Stasis is the sleeper hit. Despite it being a remix of Torque, I think 343 nailed it on this one. Out of all the other arena maps, I usually have my best and most intense matches on Stasis. It has a good balance of close quarter and long-range engagements.

In regards to the OP, classic maps aren’t just instant things. The community usually decides by popular opinion, in which case, is still a bit early in Halo 5’s time.

I played on Guillotine for the first time yesterday and I was infatuated.

Common misconception.

Every single Launch map for Reach was designed for Multiplayer, then sent off to the campaign team for them to incorporate them into the campaign maps.

The best part of this is that it makes Bungie look incompetent AND lazy instead of just lazy.

I disagree with that.
I disliked parts of Reach, but I still played it quite a lot.
The maps implemented into the campaign are small compared to the rest of the map. It was more of a fun thing to do in order to “meld” SP and MP and Firefight together. Make areas recognisable.

They made extensive improvements to Firefight through more options. Forge expanded a lot, and Forge World. Custom games were huge. Everything worked well. Problem is that the game deaign they went with was in many players’ opinions, not up to par.

I agree 343 hasn’t developed any notable maps. The h5 forge community is amazing though. If you go on forge hub and just look around you can find some really fantastic maps, competitive and casual alike.

343’s map design has always been pretty bad. I still cannot think of any Halo 4 map names and it will probably be the same with 5.

Say what you will about H5’s maps, but at least they weren’t ripped directly from the campaign…

Also, you have the tools. Make your own legend.
