Now lets take a look at the maps in Halo 4 and what theme they most prominently are.
Abandon - Human
Adrift - Human
Complex - Human
Daybreak - Human
Exile - Human
Erosion - Human
Forge Island -Forerunner
Harvest - Human
Haven - Forerunner
Impact - Human
Landfall - Human
Longbow - Human
Meltdown - Forerunner
Monolith - Forerunner
Outcast - Human
Perdition - Human
Ragnarok - Forerunner
Ravine - Forerunner
Shatter - Human
Skyline - Human
Solace - Forerunner
Vortex - Forerunner
Wreckage - Forerunner
Thats 14 Human themed maps and 9 Forerunner themed maps. Now I’m surprised and impressed on just how much variety 343i has given us on only Human and Forerunner based maps but I am a bit disappointed to see a lack of Covenant themed maps and to a lesser extant Flood maps.
Why not have a map set inside a Covenant ship like Midship/Heretic were? Or a Covenant structure like Assembly or Gemini?
Halo 4’s DLC has been mostly based on locations in the extended universe and not just on Requiem(5 stars to 343i for doing that) so why not have a map set say…on a CCS-class battlecruiser docked next to the Unyielding Hierophant? Or on Pegasi Delta in the Covenant refinery or Joyous Exultation?

Just because war games is canon doesn’t mean we can’t have Covenant or Flood maps. Remember its all set on the combat deck of the Infinity, which is why we got maps set on places like Harvest and Requiem, even though Harvest was glassed decades earlier and Requiem was recently destroyed.
You know, I really have no idea why they wouldn’t make Covenant maps. The Covenant are a big part of the Halo universe, and they show up in Halo 4, so why not give us a few Covenant environments? Even Reach gave us Covenant maps (though it would have been nice to have more than just a couple of them).
I’m getting quite bored of human architecture, bring on the purple!
Completely agree. All of the maps currently seem to have an overabundance of rocks. Everything seems rock themed. Human buildings with rocks or forerunner buildings with rocks.
I would call Wreckage a human-themed map. It is set in a Forerunner location, but all of the accessible architecture on the map is human. Actually, there’s a Lich or two, but they don’t make up much of the geometry. But overall, the vast majority of Wreckage is UNSC themed.
Also, I wouldn’t expect to see Flood maps any time soon. There have only been a handful of Flood maps in Halo history and the Reclaimer saga doesn’t seem to be going in that direction.
I would love to see a Covenant themed map someday. I especially like 343i’s take on Covenant interior design but we only ever see it in the Lich, so seeing that expanded into a full size environment would be good. A map which takes place on Sanghelios would be amazing. It would be a mixture of native Sangheili and Covenant architecture as well as the general geography.
With the Covenant still a huge threat to humanity, Covenant themed maps would totally make sense within the War Games canon. As for the Flood maps, the mere fact they are training for the Flood yet have no environments is a real head-scratcher.
Instead we get maps on place like Harvest. Is someone looking to invade Harvest anytime soon?
I’ve noticed this as well. Some Covenant-themed and Flood-themed maps are in order, I think. I’m thinking they should bring back Gemini, Midship, or Assembly (or all three, why not?)
