Why are the weapons so big?

Why are the human weapons so big in halo?
the weapons are made to fit into spartans hands but, even they have a variety of sizes. I can’t remember if some guns (like the assault rifle) were made before 2511, I assume they were. So why did nobody question why the weapons were so big? Guns like the assault rifle are 3 feet long that’s like holding an m14, even the smg is huge at 25in. Do they have marine sized equipment or does the unsc just like to waste metal?

I don’t think that the UNSC has made weapons for Spartans and Marines, just because the size of them. But correct me if I’m wrong. And I think the only “big” weapon is the Sniper Rifle. Or the Rocket Launcher and Spartan Laser.

Spartans would look silly without large weapons is the answer. Its not too satisfying but it makes sense from a gameplay perspective.

That’s what I feel when I use SMG.

Many of the weapons featured in Halo 4 were primarily designed for use by Spartans.

> The Series 5 is the latest iteration of the standard Sniper Rifle System Model 99. Intended for use by augmented personnel, the Series 5 features a heavily ruggedized frame, robust carrying handle, and standard accessory rails. Internally it is nearly identical to the older Series 2.

> The original M392 model remains in service with the Army and Marine reserve units, though the heavier M395 version – created specifically for use by Spartan operators – now sees more widespread combat use.

> Though still too cumbersome for general use by non-augmented personnel,

All of those weapons are weapons that- in their postwar incarnations- were designed and most often used by the spartan corps. Hence they are much bulkier, being used by soldiers wearing strenght-enhancing armour.

That’s pretty poor planning given that there are only a few hundred Spartans and millions of regular human soldiers.

Those guns aren’t likely massively widespread. Don’t forget h4 focuses almost entirely around Infinity. No halo game has ever modeled the entire UNSC arsenal at the time.

They also likely plan to keep increasing that number of S-IV’s.

everything in halo is bigger…

Maybe it makes it sturdier, especially on different worlds?

They may look bigger. But don’t you think that they’re lighter than they look?

They use massive weapons to single out the weak soldiers. If you can’t carry a bulky rifle with enough recoil that a Spartan is affected by it, you’re deemed too much of a -Yoink!- to be allowed to operate anything larger than a pointy stick.
