Why are the Spartan IV's so big now?

I noticed that when I was playing Halo 5, that Locke was a big as Master Chief, and that Palmer was as big as them too. Yet I when I played Halo 4, I remember that Palmer and the other Spartan IV’s were about average size for humans, now they match Spartan II’s in height. Did something happen in the lore that I don’t know of, or did 343 make them bigger so Locke could be seen as an actual match for Master Chief.

Also Locke being able to fight Chief like that was awesome, but yet I could only think that Master Chief is stronger and faster than Locke because of the experimitations done to him. Did age slow Master Chief down, or do the Spartan IVs get some of the same enhancements as the Spartan II"s?

Yea, I don’t really get it. The actual augmentations that the Spartan IV’s go through is a bit vague, but as far as I understood they shouldn’t have gotten taller (can you imagine how badly growing a foot and a half would mess up a matured adult muscluloskeletal system?). To be honest, I’m not a fan of the Spartan IV’s. Spartan II’s and III’s had to be trained and augmented from an early age and had to go through a lot of crap to become so awesome. Spartan IV’s just slap Mjolnir armour on anyone (Vale was a frigging scientist with no combat training or experience before joining the spartan program) and call them a “Spartan”.

They do actually grow. I remember Palmer being shorter in Halo 4, but I think that was because the lore on Spartan 4s hadn’t been put in place much by then. If you look it up, I know Buck grew drastically during his augmentations (I read it once on his wiki page what height he was before and after). I believe according to the lore that it is an extremely painful process, and like with the original IIs I think some people end up permanently crippled.

I think the common idea in that fight is that Chief underestimated Locke until he broke his visor. After that the fight quickly became very one-sided. The Spartan IVs are very strong, and have received comparable augmentations to the original IIs. There were a handful unable to be implemented, but scientific advances allowed the majority to be adjusted for adults and therefore the IIs and IVs are in many ways comparable. Obviously the IIs, however, have vastly more experience, and that can be everything in deciding fights between them.

I don’t really see the hate on the Spartan IVs, they are so much relatable and charismatic. Not to mention that they are probably the most loyal Spartans (although the reasons of why another Spartans have disobey orders are justified).

Back to the main theme, I remember being Palmer being almost as big than John, so I don’t see a big difference.

I’m with you on this man, there is no “speed’Em’Up” injection for experience.

Plot.

Yeah, because when I think of Locke, Vale, Tanaka, and Palmer, I think “relatable and charismatic”…

And nobody really hates the Spartan IV’s, it’s just that they are the lamer version of what we already had. Spartan II’s and III’s were trained and augmented from childhood (many not surviving) to be the greatest warriors humanity had ever seen and helped turn the tide of the Human-Covenant War. Spartan IV’s are just a hodgepodge of random soldiers they injected with steroids and slapped armour on, and who haven’t done anything impressive. Heck, look at team Osiris. Vale wasn’t even a soldier before before becoming a Spartan, she was just some expert on the Sangheli, Tanaka was in the Army for a grand total of two years, Locke was some ONI spook but not a soldier, and none of them even fought in the War against the Covenant. Buck is the only one who was a legitimate soldier with combat experience. Point being, it obviously isn’t that difficult to become a Spartan IV.

Chief should have rest Locke when they one v oned

I mean rekt. I hate autocorrect.

My understanding is that the augmentation process and armour has improved somewhat since Spartan II, so giving the Spartan IV’s similar strength, etc without the risk of serious disabilities.

However, I would have thought that the Spartan II’s would still ace it because of the training since childhood.

I can remember the one cut scene in Halo 4, where you see the Master Chief next to the Doctors and could actually see how large he was. That looked pretty cool.

The IV’s have always been taller than normal Humans. Palmer, no matter what her portrayal in H4 may look like, is 6’9", and always has been. Chief is 7’1", and Hoya (for comparison) is 7’2".

This is ideal to 343…anyone can pick up and play.

Same reason Chief’s armor was changed in a “firmware update”. Chief was definitely taller though. H4 ending: - YouTube

MK III’s were meant to be easier to produce and cost less, and the MK IV’s effectively mass produced.

Even with the improvements in technology and medicine, it still seemed a bit wrong for Locke to even be able to crack the Chief’s visor.

The II’s are meant to be the ultimate, but just too expensive to mass produce or replicate.

I’m pretty sure Palmer wasn’t 6 ft 9 when she was in the ODST.

They’re not.

It’s because we play as both and the assets are the same size.

Go watch the last cutscene where John and Locke step off the Pelican. Locke is a good two steps in front of Chief, so closer to the “camera” and he’s still shorter. If he were to back up two steps and stand perfectly side by side with Chief, Chief would tower over him.

Here, I found a still. it’s hard to tell who’s standing in front of whom by this image, but if you watch the scene you can tell by their movements. Locke takes two steps further than Chief, and looks back, and slightly up, at him.

Here’s the whole scene

As stated in the cutscene introducing blue team with MC in campaign, they had just been non-stop running missions and searching for Cortana.
Makes sense that MC would be a little tired and not at his prime fighting Locke.

Is that why everyone is always complaining on here that Halo 5 is too hard and too complicated compared to 2 and 3?

noticed it too. Only thing I can surmise is that they wanted Locke to be the Chief’s equal in physical stature. What give the VI’s and edge is thier armor, which makes them just a strong and fast, of not faster, than the IIs.

I would like to see chief get a major armor upgrade.

If the 4’s could just become spartans basically form the armor, what would chief be like in 4 armor?
