This honestly feels like Halo 4’s canvases all over again. You boost for a few seconds and you explode by hitting the other side of the map.
This is most evident on the space map. I mean seriously? Why give us all this space only to restrict us to a tiny, tiny section of it?
Reach a game that came out half a decade ago had Forge World where space was never an issue, why is this acceptable?
Before forge came out when we had to glitch out of maps to explore the play space I and probably most people thought it was so restrictive because you know the map was a work in progress, still in development. NOPE. Thats how small the maps actually are. I’m pretty sure I could throw a ball farther than the playspace on the forest map. The Forge Islands in Halo 4 were larger.
I had these grand ideas for a banshee dogfighting map in space but lo and behold the map is stupidly small making it impossible. The gap from bottom of the map to the top is like 50 feet. Just…WHY?
And this is not even touching on the awful controls.
That’s cause your boost is lightspeed. The maps are huge. Just place a vehicle like hog and see how long it takes to drive around. It puts the space into perspective.

Go on the space map and get in a banshee and you’ll see what I mean. You have no height.
Well a sacrifice had to be made to accommodate for things like dynamic lighting, special FX, a higher object count, different color objects, animated objects. It was a good compromise. In all honesty, we don’t need a map as big as forge world. You couldn’t build on every part of it in one file anyways. Why is all that extra space necessary? These canvases are a good size.

Did you somehow miss all the race maps and adventure maps that used all of forge world? I’m sorry but no amount of dynamic lighting can make up for having 50 feet of available height.

Except the amount of dynamic lighting we have does make up for a smaller canvas. That’s my opinion though. When have we been able to place our own lights? Or adjust lighting with coulds? I’m not an expert in graphics and im sure you aren’t either or this thread never would have been started, but a compromise had to be made. We got quality over quantity and I love it.
Map size are fine. The emptiness of the space map + The labeled boundaries + Monitor’s/Banshee’s boost = The map appearing to be smaller than what it is. Also the size doesn’t limit creativity, your imagination does.

That’s actually the whole reason they aren’t that big. The forge guys outright said that in one of the weekly updates or a stream.
I have to agree with OP, alpine looked big when I loaded it but but when I explored the boundaries it felt so small, and the border was badly done, one side is barred by a massive cliff, and another by a body of water, but the two shorter ends both touch the border at ground level with space beyond, making it easy to wander over what looks like normal terrain and hit a soft kill zone.
On Halo Reach, my friends and I would spend countless hours playing on forge world where we would utilize the whole map even if we couldn’t build all over it. It wasn’t just massive, it was also detailed which made it great for hunger games, races, massive scale all out war, dogfights, forge art, and any other crazy games we could think of. Not only that, but with such variety in terrain, it would fuel our imagination for what maps to build next using pieces of the already existing world. I personally thought it was the best forge but to each his own.
