Why are the Banished so cool?

I understand them being cool in a few ways. For example,
I like the Banished armor and weapon and vehicle design.
I also like Atriox. But WHY are they cool? Explain to me why they are cool. Explain why the are so popular. Explain why it’s the first worthwhile thing 343 has done.
(I’m kidding!)

The banished are a mix of old and new.

They’re a new faction with a new look. They have the old species and the old vehicles, but they have new goals, a different but well liked art style, and a new feel.

Those who want something new can be happy.

Those who want the familiarity of the covenant can be happy.

The Banished are a new and improved Covenant. The problem that came about with the splintering of the Covenant was that no singular faction was that big of a threat. Not really. The feeling of “oh -yoink- we could all die” went away when the Giant Alien Church of Death fell. The Banished have managed to fill that role, but are far more intimidating because they aren’t hindered by blind zealotry. Atriox is a pragmatic strategic genius who rules with reason and logic, as well as characteristic Brute savagery when it’s needed.

So we got the resources of the Covenant with a better leader. The feeling of “oh -yoink- we could all die” has returned, and is stronger than ever.

I don’t personally find them all that cool. They’re just another Covenant splinter faction to me.

Exactly how I feel

Well their purpose is survival and control.

There’s no false religious doctrine guiding them down a path of genocide. They fight because its all they know and they fight well.

There’s also the matter of Atroix being an active leader as opposed to the Covenant leadership. The Hierarchs wouldnt be caught dead in the front lines whereas Atroix was willing to get his hands dirty in order to assist the Banished in its goals.

The Banished also make use of anything they can find, they cant afford to be picky about what technology they have access to and so they scavenge all technology they can.

The Banished also does not discriminate on who may join. Atroix holds no particular grudge against Elites for example and has a Mgalekolo commander in his ranks. The “lesser species” like Grunts and Jackals seem to have mostly the same sort of an experience in the Banished however. I dont doubt that they would accept humans either. Could you imagine a rogue Spartan joining the Banished? We know rogue spartans are a possibility and one that has happened a fair few times but none ever defected to a primarily non human organisation before.

The Banished are terrifying because they have no rules preventing them from accomplishing their goals and they survived against the Covenant despite humanity nearly being brought to extinction from them.

The Banished are survivors.

I guess but they’re really the only splinter faction that actually adapts and changes. The others are Covenant Lite whereas the Banished are a whole other level.

The main difference really is the adherence to religious doctrine over Atroix and his factions more pragmatic approach to the world around them. The lack of blind zealotry makes Atroix a far less predictable foe.

Atroix isnt as wasteful as the Covenant either. The Covenant could glass planets as slowly as they wanted and throw troops at enemies until there were no enemies left.

Atroix places more intrinsic value in his men and also wants them to join of their own will as opposed to forcing membership like the Covenant did with all other client races

Most believe it because it’s a copy-paste of the covenant but red, you know, the stereotipical evil color. It’s the first thing everyone would think of, and therefore the most basic and obvious way to come up with an enemy.

If you genuinely don’t care about the fact the covenant, whatever you call it or whatever color you give it to, are supposed to be defeated and powerless at this point… then bread and circus from you. Bring back the flood, noble team, johnson and guilty spark as well I guess.

Wait who are the banished? Halo wars?

They’re a cool concept for sure.
