Why are so many people going back to Reach?

First off, hear me out: I get it.

I get that Halo 4 is something new, and its a “new project”. Some things (a lot of things) didn’t work. As halo fans, we’re in uncomfortable territory. My personal opinion: Halo 4 is a good video game, but an average halo game (if that makes sense). It’s occasionally fun but nothing like the good ol days of Halo CE, 2, 3, and ODST.

But Halo Reach? Seriously? Halo Reach was AWFUL. Worst halo game to date IMO. And a lot of people’s opinions. I don’t understand how anyone could go back to this garbage and have more fun than Halo 4. I don’t. I honestly think some people force themselves to hate halo 4, an they’re just following the crowd. Maybe that’s it…they’re just playing Halo Reach because its what everyone plays.

Halo Reach pros: Customs, Forge, Theater
Halo 4 pros: Campaign, Multiplayer, SpOps

If you ask me, Halo 4 wins in the categories that are the most important in any Halo game. I didn’t include Firefight because even though I don’t prefer SpOps, Firefight in Reach is much worse.

So with that being said, can anyone explain this? I’m not trying to defend one game or another, or bash any game, I’m just baffled. Halo 4 seems like a huge upgrade.

I’ve heard a lot of people say this but the truth is people aren’t leaving Halo 4 for Halo Reach.Reach’s population is peaking at around 2,000 daily. The truth is much uglier. People are simply leaving Halo. You see, Halo has never really had it’s fan base increase since Halo 3.

Yeah that’s what happened to me. Halo 4 lags too much for me, but I can play any other multiplayer fine, so I just stopped playing. It gets to a point where you just can’t put up with the teleporting any longer, and as much as I want to play Halo 4, I just can’t.

Because Reach is an amazing game for all of it’s features. (Maybe not campaign)

-CSR sucks
-DNFs
-LAG
-black screens
-matchmaking aborted while searching
-lack of gametypes
-lack of good maps
-flinch sucks
-can’t play as elite
-no firefight
-spartan ops sucks
-no real classic playlist

because reach was awesome and halo 4 was very much not awesome. we went from one of the best halos to the worst. why wouldnt anyone go back to a superior game? it had firefight, a great campaign, it still had weapons placed on the map for MM, theater…

most things are not bad there are good for halo now like.

JIP = good to have it in halo now. if you play a 4 vs 4 match you know most time’s that there are players that quit a match. and then you have maybe soon 4 vs 1 in 1 match. i remember it good from the other halo’s that players have quit in the same team and there you are alone vs 4 other players. with JIP you have a chance to win the match with new players.

the plasma pistol and plasma grenades. in big team deathmatch you have 2 type game’s. 1 is Big Team Infinity Slayer that is with custom loacuts and the other is Big Team Slayer with standard loacuts like LIGHTRIFLE,frag grenades, no ordnance drop and a magnum.

boltshot is a close combat gun only thing you need to kill someone that is using a boltshot is a long range gun like LIGHTRIFLE,DMR or BATTLE RIFLE.

like all things in a game it has a good side and bad side. and most players tell only the bad side’s and not see the good side from most tings.

I left 4 because its a noob friendly game. Skill isn’t rewarded. The ar flips the bird at a good player. It’s really unbalanced. And besides reach was great! Sure armor lock/camo/jet pack were a pain to deal with but at its core, the weapons were balanced, and skill was what made a good player. Aim and strafe aren’t shut down with a boltshot in this game.

How could you say halo 4 is better? Reach’s campaign is better, theater is better in reach, custom games is better in reach, net code is better in reach, menu is better in reach, ff is better than spops, mm is better in reach, and reach has way less bugs. There is almost nothing that 4 does better.

Tho lets be honest here in general, while reach is most defiantly better than 4, odst ff was better than reach’s and halo 3 multiplayer was better than reach.

Myself and our group went back to Halo: Reach because we have fun playing it. It is as simple as that. Halo 4 is not fun. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is about Halo 4 that makes it this way. I think it’s the ridiculous loadouts combined with the lack of skill required to play the game.

When playing Halo: Reach, there is a real strategy and skill required to do well. It’s fun to apply it all and try to play a good game. Little things go a long way, like the Concussion Rifle for example. In Reach, it’s not an easy gun to use, but it has some massive benefits, namely stopping power (sword and hammer wielding enemies fear this gun). In Halo 4 the Concussion Rifle is a total joke.

Go back and play a few games of Big Team in Halo: Reach. You must have forgotten what it meant to be able to use vehicles in MM. In Halo 4 vehicles have been made into a joke. When players can choose to spawn with plasma pistols and grenades, and use active camo and sprint together, it takes absolutely no skill whatsoever to stop a vehicle.

Bullets fly into peoples heads in Halo 4 whether you are aiming there or not. That sucks for those of us that actually want to feel like there is some human skill involved in what we’re playing.

343 clearly, clearly does not understand Action Sack.

PUT IT BACK IN HALO: REACH. Whoever decided it should be removed should have been fired that same day.

Halo 4’s Action Sack (which I was extremely excited for btw) just falls flat. Rockets and Rails is fun, but other than that it’s very stale. Once the novelty of the first few games in any given gametype wears off, it’s just boring again.

I found myself playing Halo 4 and just not even caring if we win or lose a match. My KD sucks in Halo 4 in my opinion, and it’s simply because when I played I was so bored I just kinda laughed at each match.

SO! We put Halo: Reach back into the Xbox and it’s a total blast. BUT WE NEED ACTION SACK BACK IN REACH.

Spartan Ops sucks big time. Sorry, it blows.

I really hope that Halo 4 is intentionally portraying Spartan 4’s as total -Yoink!- I have a feeling it’s intentional by the way Halsey tells Spartan Palmer that “First, we taught them to be silent”. God I hope that that comment is foreshadowing pointing towards how limited Spartan 4’s are. Listening to Spartans in this games (Halo 4) is like listening to a script written by a bunch of 16 year olds in IT class. It is so ridiculously off base from what Spartans are, that I gotta believe it’s intentional and I think maybe that’ll be part of the story later, but I dunno.

One last rant before I stop this novel. 343 are complete sell outs to the idea that a company can take a popular IP and just blatantly USE it to squeeze every nickel from our pockets. From the day 1 DLC to this joke that is Spartan Assault, to a new DLC Armor Mod that ejects us from vehicles? recharges shields faster? Joke. You know why they have given the ability to be ejected from a vehicle? Because unless you are playing with a preschool class, you won’t last more than 30 seconds in that thing regardless, so here, at least with this you might not die as the vehicle gets stickied. Although you will still be Auto aim DMRd from all angles of the map, so whatever. Lol. Put in Halo: Reach.

Every aspect of this game and the direction that 343 has taken shows me that the #1 goal is to milk us for as much cash as possible. It’s so bloody obvious and it really sucks. Rather than taking some man hours and allowing us to play Action Sack in Halo: Reach (a fan favorite. Requested by many FANS. FAN FAVORITE) they spent those man hours building Spartan Assault. Made sure that it can ONLY be played on a Microsoft product, and made sure that in order to purchase certain weapons you will pay real life money for it (as far as I understand that’s the case. I refuse to do it, what a joke, so I haven’t tested this).

One last thing. The armory in Halo: Reach is unlocked by ranking. This is excellent. I despise the fact that I will never unlock the entire armory in Halo 4 because A) Some commendations are now barely even possible (slick move guys. More proof of competency), and B) Even if I DID attempt some of these commendations, they would require that I play a LOT of certain game modes, and I won’t waste my time with that.

It’s bad that I have spent more time with this post than I have with the game in 3 months. And what’s worse is that nobody cares about this post anyway lol. Oh well whatever I needed something to do while drinking my morning coffee.

Reach has so many custom game options and overall, so many things to do, that Reach is like a multipurpose toy. Build, play, explore, etc. Minecraft is Reach’s only competition in my eyes.

Reach peaks at around 25k based on its population counter. It was stuck at 26,009 but I guess 343 fixed it about a month ago. H4 is about 25-30k. Yesterday I was on Reach and it was over 25k and H4 was sitting at 22k. Where are you getting 2k? H3 is at least 2k probably closer to 5.

I went back to Reach and H3 because they are better Halo games/arena shooters. 343 cant even explain what Halo 4 is. Its all over the place and isnt necessarily great it any category.

Bottom line is Halo Reach is more of a Halo game than Halo 4. Reach is still an Arena Shooter at its core even with AAs.
I went back to Reach and H3. Halo Reach for BTB and Co-OP and H3 for good ol Team Slayer. I jump on H4 and force myself to like something, anything but still go back to the better Halos.

This is true for all of the Halo titles, like 'em or not.

I’ve been going back to Reach and on occasion, even back to play ODST (campaign).

There’s nothing wrong with any of the games, or the people that play 'em.

Remember, it’s a GAME.

Strange. I got onto Halo Reach the other day, about 2-3PM EST, and the Population was right around 15-16k. I’ve seen it up at 20k as well.
