Why Are People So Upset About Chief's Cloak?

Why are people so upset about Chief wearing a cloak in the trailer? It’s not a big deal.

I’m pretty sure 343i had Chief wear just so it wouldn’t be obvious it was him in the beginning of the trailer or because he has cracks in his armor. IMO the cloak looked pretty sweet.

But really, it’s not a big deal.

It just didn’t scream, Halo, to me personally. Just seemed off-putting.

He’s masking his appearance, apparently he’s alone and in hiding for unknown reasons.

Seeing as Halo has been artistically stagnate for a decade, anything new obviously won’t look like “Halo.”

I’m loving the new cloak… I actually love it! But it’s so easy to make fun of:

Indeed, it isn’t a big deal (Welcome to Waypoint, where the slightest thing is a big freakin’ deal :stuck_out_tongue: ). Besides, I’d say there’s a 99% chance this is either non-canon or mostly non-canon, like about every other Halo trailer.

The cloak itself could be there for several reasons. It could be that

A) It was to conceal him to make the reveal have more impact (it dang sure worked on me)

B) It’s a symbolic representation of something that happens in the game (the mighty Chief wandering an endless wasteland in battered armor and rags = Chief and/or the UNSC is dealt a crushing blow and brought to a low point, and Chief is forced to search alone on a hopeless quest for something)

Or C) Something actually happens in game that requires he wears some covering; for instance, his armor has several breaches that require he wear a cloak to protect it from sand damage.

Seriously thought it was a Destiny trailer until I saw MC’s arm.

I didn’t even register that until we saw his whole helmet.

It was definetly an odd teaser compared to those of the past for Halo, but all in all I loved it… I really dig Chief in the cloak, reminds me of Obi-wan in the two-episode cartoon version of The Clone Wars from the early 2000’s.

I thought it was pretty odd at first, but then I thought it was probably for dramatic effect.

Or hiding makes sense too I suppose.

Didn’t someone from 343 say after the fact that he was hiding from something?

Frankie did I believe.

my name is el paco del jawn of mel UNSC.

The cloak was made in a non-union sweatshop using Grunt child labor.

no no no no

Yeah, the whole “hiding from someone” thing seems off to me even though Frankie did confirm it. If he really wanted to hide, wouldn’t keeping his armor off be the better bet than a piece of fabric?

Without his armor he would be lame and die in the game like no tomorrow.

He is obviously trying to camouflage/hide himself.

My guess he seems AWOL to find Cortona since we don’t know of Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey’s whereabouts other then captured.

I hope we get a more post-war feel to this game.

Arby if Chief is AWOL please help him ;D

He’s a super-solider, he can handle a desert. I’m not saying ditch the armor, just that it isn’t a very good disguise. Maybe to use upon seeing the first teaser, but not likely in-universe.

What else would he use to hide in an open desert? He has outdated, worn armor… Cloak would just run out, you think Jun’s Camo is any better? Jun more pics
