Why are people complaining about the REQ system?

Because I can only fit fifty characters in the title, I need to elaborate. Why are people complaining about the REQ system’s progression time now of all times? As in, plenty of people are saying that it takes too long to unlock every piece of cosmetic gear, and that unlocking such things are based on grinding, much more so than completing commendations like Halo 3.

Did people forget about Halo Reach? You know, the game that took two eternities to reach Inheritor rank and unlock every piece of armor; the game that was based on grinding to unlock the armors; the game that had no real commendations tied to unlocking any armor? Do we just criticize Halo 5’s REQ system for taking too long to unlock things, yet conveniently sweep Halo Reach for the exact same faults under the rug because Bungie made it and not 343?

I’m genuinely curious in the counter arguments to defend Halo Reach I’ll most likely receive.

agreed. reach seems worse to me

Because the REQ system is completely random and does not award you for any goals you might have completed. Considering you get roughly the same amount of req points per game regardless of your say spartan kills/deaths, there is no real achievement.

Another argument are the microtransactions. I don’t think I need to explain this…

It would have been nice to have commendation packs from completing certain achievements that contain specific armor types. Always something they could put in if enough people get the word out!

I do agree that the microtransactions are a problem, though I mostly ignore them.

Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. it usually makes it worse.

The REQ system should be more like what they had in Mass Effect 3: Separate packs for weapons and armor.

Because kids now a days only want to complain… About everything!

I’m waiting for a nine page thread complaining about the color of the in-game text.

cause people like to complain about everything

I prefer Halo 3’s system. BUT in comparison to Halo 5, Halo Reach’s system still had a sense of progression. You had to work for your credits, and you worked for the armor you wanted. You didn’t randomly get it.

Like I said, I prefer Halo 3’s system. But between Halo Reach and Halo 5, I definitely prefer Reach.

Lets ne honest, i know we are all thinking it. Reach is, was, and always will be bad. Nuff said.

Because it randomly crashes without telling and eats your boosts… happened to me. I decided I wanted an easy game of Swat, put a rare rp boost on, finished, won. Then saw 880rp… the damn req system crashed and wasted my boost.

I like Reach… go somewhere else.

Lol how can you compare unlocks based on credits earned and ramdom rewards? Gunna be honest if i went and created a poll to survey if everyone got the armor they wanted so far in game 70% would vote that they did not yet. Im going for vale’s armor and so far im level 40 (average level curve atm) still no luck, or a dmr either. Just sayin

BOooOOOooOOOo SPooOOoOKY SCaAAAaRY MICROTRASACTIONS BOoooOOoOooOOooOOO!
Also, it’s frustrating to really want something specific and be forced to trust in RNG.

The point was the Reach, too, is grindy AF.

I meant I don’t pay money for items.

I never unlocked everything in Reach. But in H5 I’m unlocking things superfast reletive to the time I’m able to put in. I expect to have everything pretty soon. Definitely prefer Req’s over Reach’s “Hours Played Meter.”

Calling people you disagree with children doesn’t make your argument stronger, only weaker. Most people who I have seen against the REQ system have actually said they would rather earn things like armor and weapon skins like in the past games. The REQ system embodies all the problems of microtransactions, they make it easier to acquire things for in-game use through money rather than actually playing the game. It doesn’t actually improve anything either. You’ll still have to grind multiple hours of games time to unlock everything through random chance and/or probably spend as much money as you spent for Halo 5 itself, maybe more, for the same goal.
