Why are people calling Halo 4 a COD clone?

I am seriously baffled that people see a few gameplay changes as the entire game being transformed into a copy of Call of Duty. The maps, guns, vehicles, armor abilities and more are all clearly Halo, and the only things that are similar to COD are the ordinance drops and custom loadouts. COD isn’t the only game to have these features, and people seem to forget that COD added things that were previously in Halo too, such as the theater and the infected gametype, yet when Halo adds some features that were previously in COD the whole community is outraged. There are other FPS’s on the market you know, and there are plenty that have loads of features similar to the ones in COD, so why are people describing Halo 4 as a COD rip-off by taking a couple gameplay elements and changing them up a bit? I’m not going to deny that Halo 4 has problems, some bigger than others, but why do people see this as an excuse to insult 343 by calling their game a blatant rip-off? I don’t want to start a huge argument here, I just want to hear people’s thoughts on this.

because thats as clever as people can come up with. They also fail to realize all that stuff has been in FPS games long before COD put it in.

^
Maybe COD isnt the right game name but since its the most popular and well known people will say it

not as rip-off but its obvious that most of the elements of COD have been, in some way implemented into Halo 4 like with

Ordinance drops= COD killstreaks

Spartan modules=COD perks

and the over all pace of halo has been quickened to the equal of COD

> because thats as clever as people can come up with. They also fail to realize all that stuff has been in FPS games long before COD put it in.

Exactly, Everyone thinks COD started Classes which is very very far from the truth

Right because halo was originally a face paced 3 shot shooter.

Sprint.
Loadouts.
Perks (Most of which are blatant copies of the ones from CoD anyways)
Ordnance.
Flinch.
Large, bland maps.
Instant Respawn.

To a lesser extent, hitmarkers and grenade indicators.

> Herp-a-derp, Call of Duty didn’t invent those things.

No, but it’s pretty clear where Halo drew the inspiration from. It’s not like 343I is imitating games that are 10 years old for profit.

Rather, they imitate what is current to relevant times, aka CoD.

> PERKS AREN’T COPIES

Mobility > Marathon
Ordnance Priority > Hardline
Dexterity > Sleight of Hand
Stealth > Cold Blood or whatever it’s called

Please don’t make me list them all out…

It has absolutely nothing to do with who started it, it’s the fact that CoD popularised the additions, not to mention it has ALL of the additions, some games have loadouts, some have perks, some have kill streaks, but CoD has it all, plus other stuff, of which is all in Halo 4

We now have…

-Perks, of which some are direct copies from the ones in CoD
-Loadouts
-Care packages/kill streaks
-Grenade indicators
-Instant respawn
-Kill Cams
-Can spawn with a shotgun, aka the boltshot
-Flinch instead of de-scoping

they copied the unnecessary kill-cam.

> they copied the unnecessary kill-cam.

Which somehow means that both games are exactly the same.

-Hater logic (see, we can do that too)

Because they added quite a few COD elements which don’t work/belong in a Halo game.

You can rely on strawman arguments?

No one is saying it is “The exact same”, but there are numerous similarities.

Some people say the features don’t work, others say they do…It’s more of an opinion to be honest. Still doesn’t make the game a COD clone like a lot of people are saying.

this is all my opinion but:

Ordinance Drops = Killstreaks

Custom Loadouts = Classes

Specializations = perks

all maps (including Big Team Maps) also have a nasty cqb taste to them

Lots of games have numerous similarities though, even games from different genres, and no one really complained before…

Its original gameplay was well enough to not be touched with

Hmmm, if you have played Halo CE/2 sprint was basically already in the game… you just didn’t have to press a button.
I wonder if Gears will get this much hate…

Tell me, how does a giant crashed spaceship in a green plain filled with vehicles have anything to do with COD?

Yes to the first point, no to the second.

I can draw similarities between Halo and other similar games, but you could never compare Halo 3’s Gameplay to COD4’s Gameplay. Entirely different.

This, this, god -Yoink!- take all my thanks, this.

You already had sprint, and you could use your weapon while doing it, and you didn’t have to mash X every five seconds.

Sprint is pointless and only gives the illusion of going faster.

I didn’t say you could compare those games specifically…I was saying that games in general have similarities to other games, that is all.
