If you don’t know, you have to pay for past battle passes if you haven’t purchased them back when they came out. I’m going to be don’t with the winter update battle pass in a couple months and what then other than the only 2 events we’re getting.
343 plz make it so you can progress through past battle passes for free. I don’t want to waste $10 to get stuff that was free during that season.
The previously free to earn parts of the season 1 & 2 battle passes, when they were the active seasonal battle pass, became locked after the season ended; therefore, the only way to earn those items now requires you to purchase access to grind the remaining battle pass for those seasons.
Also worth noting, I believe the battle passes for those seasons didn’t include earn-able credits that’d let you purchase the next battle pass simply by finishing out that particular battle pass. Supposedly that will be the case with the release of future seasonal battle passes starting with the 3rd season battle pass which should launch in March I believe. That’s the good news, but it does make going back to these older seasonal battle passes feel significantly less worthy of one’s financial investment and time.
EDIT: I guess the season 2 battle pass is when they began incorporating earnable credits into the battle pass such that you can then purchase another battle pass without spending anymore more real-world cash. That was a much needed improvement.
Every season a new battle pass is made available those who don’t purchase it are still provided free-to-earn items within it while progressing through.
Once the season ends, those previously free-to-earn items are no longer free-to-earn. Thus, free-to-earn items are essentially FOMO items if you don’t finish the pass before the end of the active season.
Are you really surprised?
They obviously want people buying the seasonal passes or at least a seasonal battle pass and then fully grinding it to earn the free credits to access the next one without spending more of their real world cash. And if people opt to use those earned credits to instead buy stuff from their shop all the better because then they have to spend another $10 for the next battle pass.
Oh, and by giving out the occasional free item along the way they even get people who don’t pay for the battle pass attached to it. The FOMO aspect for the free items creates an even greater incentive to grind the pass to completion by those unwilling to purchase it. And if they find themselves short of completing it, or failing to reach particular free-to-earn items that they may have had their eyes on, or say they do complete it… they still increase the odds that those players opt to eventually purchase it down the road. This is because these seasonal passes are never suppose to go away. No permanent FOMO if you’re willing to spend your money.
At some point in the future, the good stuff in the Battle Passes will probably be given out for free or resold again in the shops or the Battle Passes will be given a discount. So don’t waste your money right now.
343 only cares about draining the wallets of the try hards who’ve gotta have everything and mommy and daddy’s wallets for the kiddies. I refuse to spend a penny on the store. Won’t even go in to it to access the winter update freebies. The store shouldn’t exist and the f2p model was a gigantic mis-step. It’s obvious where their priorities are. Build forge so that the community can do our work for us and make sure the shop is running 24/7. 343s m.o.
100% disagree. The F2P model is definitely not a mistake. The F2P model, with no P2W, just removed all the barriers from people having access to the matchmaking multiplayer. That’s a very good thing; particularly, with the absence of any P2W antics.
Now, we can certainly debate whether the surrounding plans/designs for the title, plus its live service, are wildly unacceptable. That’s a fair discussion/debate, but blaming the F2P aspect is just wrong. All that did was remove barriers and put the cash flow focus onto the customization system and campaign component.
If you have a massive issue with the customization in this game then that’s certainly a fair complaint, but personally I’m okay with this trade off. Now, do I wish they had provided us with a better customization system then what we got? Yes, and I’ll continue to share feedback as to how I think it should be improved upon while they still maintain a revenue source. For instance, I also won’t spend a penny in their shop; at least, at the current prices they’ve chosen to sell items at. I think the prices are ridiculous.
Nevertheless, no barriers, no fragmentation via map pack DLCs, no P2W, just a lackluster customization system due to much of its design being tied to building a needed revenue stream to support the live service aspect. This is more or less acceptable to me because I and others can play the matchmaking multiplayer without any real barriers or feeling cheated; plus, we can chose whether we’ll spend our money or not on anything beyond that. If they someday decide to reduce the shop prices into something much more reasonable to us then perhaps we will. In the meantime I’ll make due with what’s available to me.
are you asking why the the free stuff is on a timer, probably because they still want you to buy the pass? honestly i think it’s dumb either way, i just wanna earn everything for free and only be restricted by the time I put into, not the time they set for me, it’s also like they did everything to make this as backwards as they possibly could.
Incomplete game is incomplete. Keep supporting mediocrity and the shop and prices will remain the same. Halo is a ghost of it’s former self and will never return to it’s former glory the way things have been. They’re just beating a dead horse that was only killed in the pursuit of following what’s trendy instead of what made the previous titles so great. Not a single soul asked for them to implement this f2p angle or the shop. They saw fortnites revenue stream and went wow we want that! Halo was always a paid experience and I always felt I got what I paid for. Not anymore. I mean hell 60 for the campaign and if you’re a completionist who’d like to unlock everything like me 1500+ on the store items that? Even destiny isn’t that predatory and gives you the opportunity to unlock most everything via gameplay. Yes you have to buy the dlc but I’d rather pay $20-60 every 3months-a year and have all of that content available to me than all this mtx garbo. All a money grabbing scheme. Halos just a lost puppy trying to swim in a sea of big dogs and it won’t last long.
Or it’s about time everyone stops buying the battle passes and makes it a point that the community doesn’t want it. No one buys it for season 3 they’ll take the note and make changes trust me on that.
I was very mad about this, it was NOT COMMUNICATED at all. I thought I could finish the season 2 battlepass when I was done with my winter update pass. Very disappointed
Sounds like this Spartan missed the battle pass and is upset they can’t get it for free… battle pass has always cost money. Season 2 you could earn your “money” back through progressing it. Lol I realized that at about level 94…
Some people in this thread seems to forget that there is the free portion of the battle pass and the paid portion. They put the free part behind a paywall now is what people are upset about including me.
I was hoping for it. In fact, I’ve been hoping for 343i to experiment with it dating back to approximately 2016/17 as I was requesting them to try it with Halo 5’s Warzone mode. I laid out methods I thought they could consider reworking Warzone, expanding on it, and making it (that environment alone) freely accessible to the public to increase population and drive up revenue such that more resources could be directed towards making further improvements or adding more content.
Again, nothing wrong with F2P itself. The issues pop up around how a developer chooses to design aspects of a title around it. Certainly fair to criticize poor decisions that came about because of how a developer decided to construct a title around F2P, but it’s unfair to lay the blame strictly on F2P itself.
Did you purchase access to unlock everything with that battle pass? If so, you can certainly elect to continue progressing it instead of the newest battle pass.
