Why are on purpose betrayals not punished?

A simple question, I keep getting put in games with this HLG clan and every time I simply pick up a sniper or power weapon these people betray me and they swap the weapons between themselves over my dead body. Why are people like this not punished and why do they always seem to be 12 year olds with high pitched voices who yell about how halo isnt for men its for children? Does anyones Kill/Death and Win/Loss ratio really need to suffer because of people like this?

I’d advise everyone if you do happen to see a player with HLG as their Nametag/Icon to avoid them promptly and be careful if your put in a game with them that they dont betray you. The worst one I’ve come across is a real -Yoink- of a child whos gamer tag is [REDACTED], he will rage and continue attempting to betray you throughout the match if you do happen to take a power weapon before him. People like this really ruin the fun Reach could be capable of, it drags down any games you are involved in to the point that you likely lose because a bunch of kids betray their teammates over everything.

Im just curious if most people have ended up having experiences with people like this, and if so what are your thoughts on it?

There is no way to differ an accidental betrayal from a real one.

This.

A betrayal is a betrayal. Accident or no.

The best you can do is exit out of the game (don’t quit too much now) and search again if you are getting griefed. It shouldn’t be too hard to find a new match in several seconds.

While I think betraying people on purpose is annoying, it’s against the rules to single people out like this. I’d remove that person’s gamertag or this thread may get locked.

For me its simple as people should know who there playing with, if you come across people like this repeatedly its best to warn others before they suffer as well. I generally only play with my friends these days, so quitting from a game is normally not a option regardless of how annoying someone becomes. Best solution would be to have some type of system in place to remove the person from the game after so many betrayals are commited, and it simply floors me that Reach has no such system.

Its true the game cant differentiate between on purpose betrayals and those that are accidents, it never has since the start of the series but I can only hope as technology becomes more advanced that there will be a system in place in Halo 4. As long as theres a way to punish those who have so far gone unpunished for idiotic deeds such as these then I will be satisfied, I’m just curious why people steep so low in this game especially.

My KD stays around 2.25 playing MLG, swat, doubles, etc. I don’t pay that much attention to it, but it is annoying to be betrayed. I always just avoid them for unsportsman like conduct (the second option), after I quit out.

As the others have stated, a betrayal is a betrayal. Many are forgiving, others throw the ban down the moment the notice pops up. Best thing is avoid people like it and move along…

Betrayals happen, we’ve all done it before. People who intentionally do it for a weapon need to be banned. As earlier said, it totally ruins the fun of the game. They should be one shot and left to fend for themselves.

The only system I have for this is to pop em with a grenade so that they have no shield and hope that they betray me again where ill boot em, or even better, hope the other team pops him in the head…thats the ultimate insult for betrayers.

I just follow them around and melee them every ten seconds when their sheilds recharge, causing them to eventually kill me and get themselves booted.

I remember one match, BTB hemorhage, where i picked up the sniper, killed six people, went back and grabbed more ammo, and these two guys ust started following me around. They were trying their best to kill me, thank god they were terribad, but we ended up playing hide and go seek. EVentually i shot one of them in the foot, and he left me alone.

In the last three minutes of the match, my entire team had quit out, and it was just me and the teamkillers. I spawned, grabbed the sniper and proceded to get shot, forcing me into the base. There i found them, and they proceeded to teamkill me. I shot one in the head, and then the other in the foot, and then stopped moving so the last one would kill me. He then proceeded to get booted, and i eventually quit as i was the last man on my team and was getting killed by snipers and tanks the seconds i spawned.

No but really, i know where you’re coming from. They really need to make a system like that. Infact, there should be a point system. You get two teamkills. Taking donw the friendlies sheild counts as half a teamkill. So if they take down your sheilds twice, and then kill you, you get the choice to boot. Or even if they just take down your sheilds four times.

Thats what i would like to see implemented.

When you’re in a vehicle, i think that counts as a possible betryal boot, but Im not too sure about melee, weapon or grenade. I think grenades are non betryal boot, but headshot or melee count as a betryal boot and can get you booted

I’ve been booted for an accidental stick… And frags…

i have this happen alot…when they keep hitting me or killing me for like any ordince weapon…basically i just kill thrm over and over till im booted…but man does it feel good to kill those little SOB’s and drag your digital nuts across there face.

HLG is still a thing? lol

i emailed xbox support to ask about more severe consequences for these people. they advised me that this fell under “cheating” because its having an effect on the outcome of the game. i now file complaints for people who follow around lowering shields and betray (without prior provocation)

XBOX support DOES NOT CARE about betrayals nor will do ANYTHING about it.

…it will be interesting to see if there are any changes in H4 …

Unacceptable. While its not perfect by a long shot and needs some refinement, to settle for this half butt attempt is Unacceptable. It is hard to tell accidental to real one, i think it is possible. The games does register the distance between enemies so why couldnt it use some basis of that.

Also unacceptable. If it was consistent with its boot options it wouldnt be that bad. but the fact is there been times when you can get betrayed 3 times and never get that boot screen and then you “turnabout is fairplay” and do it once and get booted. Seems like halo 3 had a bug where you could go into games with fellow friends, betray them, get booted 3 times and then the following games you can betray as much as you want and never get kicked. I wonder if they have a “glitch” like that.

I was playing SWAT the other day.

Guy runs directly in front of me as I take a shot at a Blue. Headshot my teamate then get headshotted myself by the Blue because my teamate’s forehead ate the bullet.

The current system can’t tell what is accidental or not. But it does conclude that after enough betrayals, even accidental ones, that you need a timeout.

From what I’ve been able to personally find out, simply by poking the system and noting what happens, it’s a Karma System.

Betray a lot and you’ll get kicked faster and faster until the first betrayal gives them the option to boot. Likewise it’ll take more and more betrayals against you before you get the option to boot.

Thus I think that this is the source of the “I was betrayed X times, where X is more than 3, with no option to boot. So instead I take justice into my own hands and betray them and get immediately booted” ‘problem.’

I do not betray often. When I get betrayed myself it doesn’t take more than three betrayals before I get to kick them.

The betrayal boot system in Reach is a broken turd. First of all, there shouldn’t be a second or third chance. One betrayal should prompt the boot. no mercy, no second chances. You watch out for your teammates or you put yourself at their mercy.

However, they do need to make the Kick Confirmation button something that isn’t clicked immediately… I believe at the moment it’s X, the same -Yoink!- button you use to open the loadouts menu during respawn, which is a big problem for kicking people you didn’t mean to IMO.

Also, if you betray a teammate, the weapons dropped from their corpse should become inaccessible to you, by losing the option to pick them up.

Did you play Reach at launch?

The system had a hair trigger. Players were being ejected from Firefight because they launched Rockets at Banshees that evaded them, only to have the rocket curve to hit the Banshee, only to slam into the map itself and their teamate.

No. Not again.
