Let me preface by stating my frames are fine (144+) on a 3080/5900x and my network is a Gig of fiber with zero network issues. The game feels smooth offline, panning the camera, no input lag, etc. Once online however every match is different, but in areas you would never expect.
In pretty much all shooters including the entire Halo series prior to Infinite, something as simple as panning a camera is local. It feels the same offline and online, it’s how your game is physically running. Hit reg and such will change once online, players will lag around, but never does the basic action of moving around feel different. In Infinite every single match is different. Tons of jitter, stutter, choppiness, input lag, etc. Why are basic local actions ties to network health? I can get over one or two people every so often eating shots, but why does the game feel terrible to pan a camera based on network conditions? This is actually baffling.
Seems like a mix of bad netcode and PC optimization still, here’s to hoping it ever gets fixed. XSX console feels a lot better overall, but that’s no consolation as we were promised a “first class PC experience.”
(Would have included media, but once in a blue “Unstable: Jitter” appears at the top of the screen near the frame counter on friends and my screen. Rare but perhaps relevant.)
