Why are covenant trying to kill me?

So in halo 3 we had a truce, did they break it or something, I’ve been hearing some of the covenant went rogue…In a mission i was fighting a Promethean, the Promethean was fighting the covenant and the next mission they are working together? Yeah well, my enemies enemy is my friend might explain but wtf? i need someone to tell me what has been going on… (I am a CoD player, havent played halo in ages, realised cod was stupid and bought halo 4, played some and it was epic, forgot some stuff.)

This Covenant is led by an Elite named Jul 'Mdama who after the war plotted to continue killing humans because he thinks they threaten his people. He joined a group of religious monks trying to overthrow the Arbiter, but ends up being captured by ONI when he spies on the monk’s leader getting weapons from ONI. He gets taken to a secret research facility on the Onyx shield world, learns of the Didact and Requiem and escapes, conveniently, to an Elite colony world via a portal. He gathers up an army of colonists and other Covenant species and heads off to Requiem as some sort of messiah in the hopes of finding the Didact and having him kill humanity.

But the games never mention that until Spartan Ops…kinda.

The Covies in Halo 4 are a rogue faction called the Storm Covenant led by a butthurt Elite called Jul Mdabalabada or something like that.

They also worship the Derderct.

It’s really stupid. They’re the Covenant, but not really at the same time. It’s just some little faction that went to go follow the Didact.

Halo 4 never explains any of this.
