Just because they’re geared towards new players doesn’t mean they need to be completely useless. Why did Bungie waste their time creating and scripting automatic weapons if they can’t do anything? Not only has it whittled down Reach’s population to mere thousands on any given day, but it has also discouraged map pack purchases. It has probably even permanently discouraged at least 40% of the people who bought Reach from ever buying a halo title again. I know that for me, at least, I will never buy a Bungie or Halo title again.
There is no amount of money I would not bet that Halo 4’s sales will match if not exceed Reaches. For the record I believe there were about 11 million copies of Reach sold, but those are older figures and I think that by the time we get to Halo 4 it will be closer to 12, if its not there now.(someone correct me if I am wrong on that)
The title of your thread makes the assumption that everyone already accepts that they are. This is a fallacy. Try and avoid these types of “questions” if you want to encourage real discussion.
Automatic weapons suffer from one simple thing, they must burn through two health-bars, while precision (headshot capable) weapons only really need to burn through one health bar and land a head shot. I do realize a headshot requires skill, but it also takes skill to live long enough to burn through two health-bars using automatic weapons. A possible way to balance out the automatic weapons compared to the precision, non power, weapons is to give them a larger damage bonus against shields compared to precision weapons. Also, to make a larger skill gap with automatic weapons, lowering the bullet magnetism on them, and frankly all guns in the game, would possibly help. The low bullet magnetism is, In My Opinion, the reason Halo CE’s multiplayer had such a large skill gap.
The Reach AR aims itself, it needed less bullet magnetism and more damage per bullet like the Halo CE AR.

^^This everyone knows CE AR was the best. The AR is perfectly viable in AR starts and among new players who cant aim as well, but dont expect to be using much of the AR except in CQB when you play DMR/utility weapon starts expect to use mostly precision weapons. Its how the Sandbox is set up, AR starts every weapon is viable and in utility weapons starts precision weapons are dominate and automatic weapons are much less useful. So if you want a greater use of the Sandbox play AR start playlists or vote for AR starts.
