Why are all public spartan-ops set to heroic?

I’ve played public games of spartan-ops about 3 times now, but each and every single game I’ve joined in public servers are all set to heroic. I want to play on legendary, it’s just that most of my buddies are either too chicken to go on that difficulty or they’ve all jumped on the blops 2 band wagon. Which means comprising a capable team for going through each chapter is looking rather slim. I can do it myself, but it gonna be at a crawls pace. I did the first episode alone and that took me near enough a week. I want to be able to pick my own difficulty (like campaign matchmaking from halo reach) and set my own difficulty setting for my search criteria. Legendary is a fun and challenging difficulty, and it would make it more meaty if I was to play alongside players who also enjoy legendary difficulty.

I think 343 needs to patch the search options and widen the set difficulty options instead of having it capped at heroic in every single public hosted game.

What are your thoughts?

I love how spec ops lets you pick the mission first then puts into match making with players, I agree there should be one more step where you select the difficulty as well.

In reach FF has always been set to Heroic when doing co-op, so I guess 343 just did a copy paste job on that aspect.

Sure It might also force players to work as a team rather than a pack of solo super stars. They also need doubles for Spartan Ops.

I play Spartan Ops on solo legendary.

It’s backwards thinking to a guy like me. You don’t release something like spartan ops and only have the chance to play it on legendary in private games. It does confuse me of how forgetful game developers come across from time to time, it can be like 2 steps forward and 3 steps back with them sometimes.

As do I, but it gets kinda boring on your own.

If you want to play on Legendary, go solo. I don’t bother with Spartan Ops matchmaking because I can’t stand the lag.

Actually, that is a good point. My connection is good, gets a bit rough from time to time but it’s good non the less. But the lag is freaking ridiculous.

343! WHY YOU NO DEDICATED SERVERS!!!???

I think if you have a squad of 4, it should always be legendary under optimal conditions but I think 343i realized 9/10 times there will be delay, thus legendary would suck.

So I just go solo legendary.

But that just leads me to think that why couldn’t they just have dedicated servers? If games like battlefield 3 or gears of war 3 can do it, why not a well established game like halo do the same. I just think that peer to peer hosting is becoming rather redundant and outdated, I genuinely believe that dedicated servers give the best kind of gaming experience. If there are lag problems, it’s down to ones own connection, but with peer to peer; lag or black screens could be down to anyone or any reason.

They could even do a competitive version of spartan ops. Fire team castle vs fire team crimson. Sort of like a time trial, which ever team completes the objectives first gets bonus XP.
