I really don’t understand why I get punished for staying in a ranked match when everyone else on my team quits. I just had 3 games in a row where 1 to 3 of my teammates leave and i’m stuck just getting destroyed by a team of four. If im just gonna rank down anyways im just gonna start quitting.
I agree, it’s just plain annoying and hard to deal with the other team tea bagging me.
Well, if you didn’t rank down, even when down a guy (or three), the system would be easily exploitable. So if getting abused really bothers you, just quit.
Now, depending on when those teammates quit, what I think should happen is that you should take less of a CSR hit.

You could easily set it up so partys who have members quit still take a loss
I feel your pain OP it’s a pain in the butt. Only advice I can give you is to just play ranked with a partially full or completely full fireteam to avoid that kind of stuff. It’s the only way I can even play ranked.

You do take a less of a CSR hit. The first person to quit on a team gets hit with an instant -30 CSR, which is the max. Anyone that quits after them gets hit with a CSR loss equivalent to what they would’ve lost for just losing the match. It pretty much incenticizes people to quit if theyre down a player and know they’re already going to lose. It helps conserve their kd too and keeps the full team from having to finish out a pointless match.
In those situations, you should just quit since you’re going to lose anyway and you won’t get banned.
No matter what, you’re going to rank down even when people quit. Doesn’t matter, that’s just how Halo 5 has always been. When people quit and you still lose, you still rank down. If you’re the 1st person quitting, you still rank down, 2nd person or 3rd person grading, you still rank down.
That’s just how Halo 5 is, Halo 3 is exactly like this, so is Halo MCC. Halo 2 was like this as well but it doesn’t have online anymore so what can you do? lol

So they’ve this problem for over a decade so it’s ok? If my teammates quit I should’nt take a rank loss especially considering im playing solo and no one is gonna leave for me so i can dodge a loss.
I think it you end up 1v4 or 2v4 even if you lose it shouldn’t effect your rank. Dropping the ban penalty will just end in more forfeits.
I feel like it balances out anyway because within the next few games you’ll probably get a free win because one of your opponents quits.

You will take a loss in your competitive rank when you lose or quit a game, it’s just if your the 2nd or 3rd guy quitting, you’ll take a far less CSR hit then you would if you lost or was the 1st guy quitting, the problem with this is now you gotta fear the Halo 5 banning system, which only happens when you quit less then 3 or 4 games in under 3 hours I believe.
Halo 3 even had a clear warning that stated “Penalty warning, quitting games reduces your rank!” or something like that, and if you quit to many games at once, you’d get banned for a certain amount of time to. Just like how Halo 5’s system works, but Halo 5’s system in terms of the quitting and getting banned for it, are far more strict. Reach had a similar quitting and getting banned system in place to, but had no competitive ranks what so ever.
Halo 3 and Halo 5 are the only Halo games as of today that still have online competitive ranks along with casual ranks. I’m sure Halo 6 will have a similar system like Halo 5’s once it releases to.
So far this is just how the system works, and how it’s always worked. I don’t see it changing anytime soon either.
I feel an easy way to deincentivize people from quitting is to slap anyone who quits in a ranked game with a 1 hour ban from matchmaking, custom games, Halo voice chat, and campaign lobbies, with an increasingly long time-out the more it happens over the course of the entire season, extending up to a several day ban. This would be on top of the max CSR loss, of course. If someone had to leave for a legitimate reason, I doubt this would impact them, and it punishes habitual quitters in such a way as to make them a nonissue.
If you don’t have time for a ranked game, there is always social.
If your connection is so unstable that you disconnect frequently, I assure you the ranked community would rather have you stick to social. You shouldn’t subject others to the whims of your unreliable ISP.

Yes you should absolutely take a loss.
As Afro Thunda X says, people would exploit the system like no tomorrow if you didn’t. Halo 5 would become a joke! Co2 OUTBR3AK does a good job explaining how the system works. Does it suck when someone on your team quits, yup it sure does! But that’s the risks you take when playing with random people in ANY game. If it bothers you that much, maybe try playing FFA instead and play BTB in social for your team fix. Otherwise, just do what LUKEPOWA said earlier in this thread, just quit after someone else does. You won’t get banned then or get as frustrated getting stomped on.
I believe halo reach had a system where if you quit then the game wouldn’t count for you, however it was very sensitive and would ban you if you quit too many games. I’ve consistently had teammates quit on me in slayer and it’s really hurting my ranking and placement, overall the fun is going down. I play slayer and got to onyx 1900 last season so I’m not terrible at the game but I hate being penalized for starting a game 3 on 4 (yes I will be put into matches where the teammate has quit during the loading screen). I do believe in the May 1st update that the first quitter would be penalized heavily and the remaining players would be penalized less, if that’s true then that’s a good step and hopefully I get to notice the benefits from that as I rarely get a 4v4 match when I run 2s anymore with my friend. I find it never balances out for me, I’m not just being a whiner here but for every 3-4 games I have a quitter, I may get 1 game where they quit, probably playing teams all the time but it’s still frustrating.
PS feel free to add me to run games as I’m tired of quitters

This is such a defeatist attitude to have towards a problem. Id like to see an attempt to fix this without assuming everyone is gonna quit on the drop of a dime And even if they do quit the ban system for leaving too many games should take care of them. I’m not saying i have a great solution but at least it’s better then just accepting garbage because you’re used to it.

It’s not garbage. Under the old system, if anyone quit after the first person quit, they would also lose CSR and get banned which meant you were essentially forced to stay in these terrible uneven games. Now, you’ll still lose some CSR, but you won’t have to stay in the game if you don’t want to. If we didn’t lose CSR with the new system, not everyone would abuse it, but there’s always going to be bad apples that will and they have to accommodate for that.

Great that means the system had a step in the right direction but why stop now? I’m no game developer but i refuse to believe this is the best system possible the main point im trying to make now is we shouldn’t be complacent with something because its ok. I want better

Great. What’s your suggestion?

I mentioned it above. There you be little to no punishment for losing a game that your teammates quit out of but the bans for leaving ranked games should be more severe. Thinking about it now as well why cant there be an option to join ranked in progress with the caveat that any loss you taking joining mid game isn’t going to affect your rank?
