WHY am i getting games in the us?!

So from games with 20-40ms to games with 100ms+ , wtf?! is there a region setting to get rid of this crap?

Either the EU servers are overloaded with players, so you don’t fit in.
Or there aren’t enough players in your skill range in EU at the time of you searching so it must put you abroad.
Or i343 thinks players quit the game after having search times exceeding 10 seconds.

My favourite is that you have a challenge of some sort which will suffer if you have high ping, like getting kills of some sort. Absolutely the least likely, yet entertaining enough to mention, and despite its unlikelyhood, it’s realistic enough to consider being something they’d do and try to get away with.

Someone might be along to blame geo-filtering, that’s really not the case.

But no, outside of the DIY Region Select which is Geo-Filtering, there’s no ingame capacity to limit Servers

How can serves being overloaded… its 0930 in the morning (where i live) should be fine…

It should be semilocked to regions tbh… if there isnt enough players in for example EU you should match to the closest region… but this crap (since u cant use the S word LOL??? ) giving me 100ms+ in every games makes me wanna uninstall this crap… some might say “BuT ItS PlAyAbLe” No its not. the shots dont hit.

If only there was a God dang server browser.

100ms?? You lucky lucky -Yoink!-. What I wouldn’t give for 100ms

300ms for me today.

Matchmaking is broken. It’s pretty much as simple as that. The noise around the shop and the exp/progression is hiding it from the highest priority it should be - along with de-sync and lag, which are probably related. Then we get onto content etc etc etc etc.

While it was more or less sarcasm, as I doubt the population is big enough to overload the servers at any time.

Though there’s potential that the servers could be overloaded with other services, and that’d eat Infinite’s capabilities.

Unlikely - given this is hosted on the cloud it would simply scale up. Azure is typically not short enough on servers to prevent a scale out. They are quite unlikely to have a fixed number of servers running for each region (mainly due to that being quite cost ineffective, when you can save quite a bit of money by scaling in when the servers are not needed while having bascially no adverse effects on the players as you can scale out quite quickly).

As for connecting to the nearest region if it can’t find matches in your region: it does. It just so happens that the nearest region (by ping) is the US, so that means 100 ms ping. If you go to the Asia region it gets quite a bit worse.

The issue is that we don’t have any way to influence the trade off between wait times and connection quality. If you wait 10 seconds the matchmaking system will gladly put you in an out of region game. It would be best to give people at least some control over it. E.g. H5 allowed you to select wether you wanted to get matches quickly or you wanted to prefer connection quality. Idealy we’d get the region select from MCC. It will of course mean that you wait quite a bit longer for matches if your region has a low population.
