Why All the Hate?

After the reveal of some gameplay for Halo Infinite, a lot of people have since then memed and talked s–t about it and 343i. Why?

I have read that people don’t like Sprint which I don’t get, i have personally played Halo since 2006 at the age of 8 where I only played custom Halo 2 games with friends until I got my own 360 console with Live for the first time in 2009 with Halo 3. Since then I’ve always loved the Halo franchise and its story, lore, fun multiplayer and community. I do not see the issue with Sprint however, its such a nice little thing to have instead of just walking around and now that its revealed that Infinite is Open-World it would suck to just walk around like in the older games.

I’m not gonna pretend like the last 2 Halo games were amazing, halo 5 was horrible and 4 was Good storywise and Decent MP wise.

Many people also complain about the graphics, rendering etc… Its a demo of an old build… Of course it isn’t going to be looking 4K 60FPS etc. They just wanted to show us more then screenshots and just 1 min. or less footage, that demo was probably made really early and made to be playable during E3, but the Coronavirus bit all of our -Yoinks!-.

My favorite place of playing the classic storyes, multiplayer etc. is in the Master Chief Collection and as far to my knowing its going to be Backwards Compatible on the new Xbox Series X, so if you want the classic golden storyes and multiplayer of the Bungie era then thats your place.

When I get a new game, i don’t like buying something I feel I’ve played before, but thats just me personally. If Infinite would of not have sprint and had the same abilites and controls like in Reach or Halo 3 I would feel scammed for buying the same game again, because when I buy a game which is also a sequel of an franchise I want new things and evolution. Thats what I love about Halo, every game is different and everyone can choose their favorite Halo game ether Story wise or MP wise.

I’m looking forward to Infinite, it looks awesome and the new art style is charming. It looks like a lot of fun with friends, is it going to have the old and gold challenges like Normal-Legendary, skulls or even LASO. Probably not, but thankfully we still have the MCC which is an awesome collection for both Xbox and PC.

I’m very optimistic for Infinite and what 343i will do with it, of course I’m not to big of a fan of for example the design of the Banished’s Phantom as I think it looks a little blocky/duplo. Thats just my opinion though, i’m still looking forward to it.

Who knows, since its open-world maybe 343i will add more planet and places to explore? New stories, or maybe DLCs with other charatchers in before Halo CE or during the storyline between 5-Infinite or 3-4 etc. as I’ve heard of rumors this game is going to be supported for a while so who knows.

I’m excited and positive, i don’t get the hate. Thats that.

Because Halo has a large and diverse enough fanbase that it is ultimately unpleasable as a whole, one way or another regardless of what any one person thinks.

Many of us would very much like to stick with MCC/Classic Halo. However we aren’t getting new content/maps apart from skins and we have played those original maps to death at this point. ODST firefight is the best thing we have had in years unless you’re a PC gamer and are experiencing MCC Halos for the first time. All we have left in terms of new content is customs (which is really strong - just check Xbox LFG).

Why should we be forced to play the same old games over and over again? We want new Halo content. We would pay for new Halo content. I think some of us would even pay for “Star Wars Legends” content with Classic Halo in terms of having new “classic golden stories”, even if they are not official canon. 343 just aren’t interested in developing for our tastes. This is made clear by the fact the only reason MCC PC came out as early as it did is because of the PC community getting tired of waiting and the Halo Online modding community deciding to do it themselves, only for Microsoft/343 to realise the money making opportunity and swiftly moving in to occupy the PC space.

But thats the thing though, if 343 add new maps to for example Halo 3 then people are just going to bi–h anyway. I personally like the new skins and fun extra things, but adding new maps to old games would just probably be a pain for them which would be met with just more bi—ing because the new maps would not be as good as the old ones.

Ah but there is already Halo Online maps (classic Halo) that people have said would work well implemented in Halo 3 for example. This isn’t the herculean challenge that it is made out to be.

Want to see why we don’t want sprint? This topic explains it all: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/29568daf8cd14083bd1b70a810bf3581/topics/the-return-of-classic-movement-mechanics/dbb9e311-d2f8-48b5-9826-259bffe75cac/posts

Also most of the complains comes from the graphics. I rarely see complains about gameplay, but we’ll have to wait until we see the multiplayer. If you don’t know what’s wrong with the graphics you should read other threads, there are a bunch of them already.

> Because Halo has a large and diverse enough fanbase that it is ultimately unpleasable as a whole, one way or another regardless of what any one person thinks.

^Basically this.

The community wants:

  • Prometheans - Sprint - Grappling hook - Banished - Created plotline - Clamber/slide - New, classic art style - New weapons - New music inspired by but not directly by Martin O’Donnell - Master Chief to be more like OG Chief - Brohammer - Classic gameplayAnd so on and so forth.

The community also doesn’t want:

  • Prometheans - Sprint - Grappling hook - Banished - Created plotline - Clamber/slide - New, classic art style - New weapons - New music inspired by but not directly by Martin O’Donnell - Master Chief to be more like OG Chief - Brohammer - Classic gameplayAnd so on and so forth.

Also, each individual person wants some of the items on the list to be a certain way or they -Yoink-. Some people want certain combinations or they -Yoink-. Another number of people want no compromise with the other side of the fence or they -Yoink-. On top of that are people who feel entitled because they’ve been playing X number of years and so if their demands aren’t met and their “veteran status” is disrespected they -Yoink-. So basically, you can’t win. Even while Infinite appears to have some nice middle grounds and compromises (sprint appears to be cosmetic), people will still find ways to -Yoink- about it.

Of course this doesn’t mean there isn’t legitimate criticism of the demo but I’m not wrong, this is how things are.

This all falls apart when you consider classic fans have practically got none of what they wanted and instead what we have is a fortnite, Halo 5/4 lovechild with COD weapons and an ugly world space with 2013 graphics. Seriously what at all looks like classic halo in any way, the colours don’t and neither do the covenant. Only things that do look classic are the chief which you don’t see cause its an fps and the pelican from the outside.

Whether you go on forums, Youtube videos, anywhere you can post comments, there’ll be jerks here and then.

Sarcasm. I thought “big brain” gave it away.

And there are people who disagree with you, even some “classic fans”.

So tell me again how I’m wrong.

Honestly I wasn’t bothered about it. Only thing that had me thrown off was the design of the brutes. They’re not that menacing anymore and I was really looking forward to the brutes return. I could be wrong judging an 8 minute gameplay video, but until I play this game, HALO 2 WILL always hold the true Jiralhanae. Hoping we still get to battle some chieftains or “Brute Warlords” as they’re called in HW2.

still pumped for this game.

Well thats the thing do, those ¨Classic fans¨ only want classic halo… Thats never going to happen. I’m a classic fan myself and love the Bungie era stories and multiplayer and I have since I was 8, but every halo game can’t be the same as the older. That’s just gonna get boring and repetetive.

Well a lot of people are talking about this as if the issues with the game have been caused by 343 trying to cater to classic fans and therefore toning down their 343 style for Bungies. This causing a lot of aesthetic clashes. However I would wager that 343 have just created a terrible looking game which doesn’t resemble classic Halo anyway. People who don’t even know what Halo is have been saying this looks terrible, my mate who I showed the 8 minute gameplay trailer to who doesn’t play halo cause hes been a PC player said it looked hilariously bad specifically with the phantom flying over and the level hexagon walls looking like minecraft blocks.

Classic fans have never been an issue as 343 has never listened to them. In fact it feels there’s kind of a witch hunt out to blame Bungie fans for the art direction and graphics being such a mess when things have never even looked like that in a Bungie game to begin with. I think the community is thinking of itself as too great a force to be reckoned with, the devs don’t listen either way they just do what they want. They have seen fortnite is popular and now the game looks as colourful and flat as that, COD guns look cool to 12 year olds, so we have COD guns now etc. Don’t be surprised if a battle royale mode slips its way into Halo Infinites big open level design. The community is doing too much self analysing when really the fault is simply with whoever made this.

Only things that do look classic are the chief which you don’t see cause its an fps and the pelican from the outside.

I’m not saying your criticism is invalid or wrong even, it just doesn’t prove me wrong that the community is heavily divided on everything.

THIS ^^^

> Because Halo has a large and diverse enough fanbase that it is ultimately unpleasable as a whole, one way or another regardless of what any one person thinks.

In my opinion, saying this is just misrepresenting the community and 343 has done this for a while now.
It’s not about please everyone but to please their fans.

I’ll take Sprint for example, independently you like it or not, the truth is that the game would be better without it and the vast majority of players would be pleased. Most of people who like sprint quickly change their mind after realizing how harmful it is for the game and how it impacts negatively a lot of areas on it. If most of people would truly understand what made Halo great in the first place, we wouldn’t see the community splitted like this because we would focus our feedback into specific areas (and we do already for the most part honestly). Most of people want Halo to feel like Halo and not a copy other shooters like CoD and now apparently Doom. Halo is it’s own thing, it doesn’t need to copy other games because it is iconic, unique and great the way it is. It’s a reference point of quality and doesn’t need to rely on other shooters to be great. Newer Halo games needs to be an evolution from the previous iterations, not a completely different thing (looking at you, Halo 5). It doesn’t need a different artstyle (like scrapping everything as H4 did), it doesn’t need sprint, it just needs to evolve, like how H3 evolved from H2. Sure it needs new content, new mechanics, new maps, new weapons, it must evolve and offer something new, but it must stay true to Halo. We like Halo for a reason and we want more of it.

Halo infinite, looks like halo ce and spv3 and spv3 has armor abilites from the halo reach 4 and 5. Halo infinite brings a new air, brings things from the classic halos but also brings new things is a mixture of the old and the news, many people will like it and I also see that it is going to bring more new people who will like this infinite halo and the game mode that brings to the saga that has not played all the previous games.
Regarding the sprint this time they have decreased it, it will no longer be a tool that will get you out of danger or play ninja mode without shooting and only hitting punches.
A good thing 343 has done is to give you the choice of playing MCC halo 1annyversary 2annyversary 3 reach 4 3odst if you dont like the new halo games 5 and Halo infinite
(now in pc  i was tired of halo custom edition and halo 2 vista).
