Why all the hate on Locke?

I mean yeah Chief isn’t really in the game that much but really don’t understand what so bad about Locke & his team .

I mean I hear people say stuff like “He has no character!”
he showed lot of character in Nightfall imo
& if you aren’t blinded by nostalgia hopefully you could easily see that Chief really had no character in the first three games.
Oh well I must be crazy to think other wise :frowning:

-Yoink- you that’s why

Very true. Master Chief didn’t have much character in CE or H2. His character now is kinda weak and girly. I liked his character before he got a hard on for a computer.

people are just racist and need to make up a bs excuse to make them not seem racist.

I dont really understand it either. But it’s been going on longer than the games been out.

Link to proof.

Are you swedish?

I actually like Locke, I just didn’t want him to end up beating the MasterChief. As long as there’s no adversarial relationship there, I’m cool with Locke and I hope he features in future games.

When all the marketing builds up a rivalry with a character people have been playing for over a decade, it’s easy to see how people might react to that initially.

Halo 5 should be called Halo~cke, Its not master chiefs show it it Locke, just some nobody they threw on us. Im not even playing this game for the story, just got it fot MP. If Locke is in Halo 6, im finally done with halo for good. I played 2 chapter of the story and i cant play anymore. Locke just makes me want to vomit.

What little charicter Chief had in the previous games was 100x better than Locke’s boring character. I would have rather played as majestic in 5 because even they had better more interesting characters and personalitys than Locke’s crew who are cripplingly boring, even memethan fillimeme

All of you are new players, i understand this… let me help you:
Master chief was originally a hollow character because bungie developers wanted the person playing the game to feel more like their own individual spartan! With very little speaking lines and no face, the payer is allowed to imprint their own characteristics onto a character… that mixed with the “sandbox style” play, meant that he was making the choices i would have made in any scenario! Like before halo four ruined it, there was a massive debate whether master chief could be a woman. It was well thought out and DOCUMENTED fact that made halo so enjoyable is because we were able to create the character ourselves. Now they have him getting emotional (halo 4)… which is unwarranted since that wasn’t “my” master chief. And when that didn’t work, they threaten to bump him out of the game (Halo 5)

You’re half right. Bungie originally wanted Master Chief “hallow” so the player can step in his shoes. However, he has been a male since the book “Halo: Fall of Reach” which was released before H2.

Edit: Also, it was H3 that made him a emotional little girl.

Maybe you need to have watched nightfall to like locke. Just by his actions in halo5 hes a bit bland but nightfall made him epic, plus i prefer using him in campaign because you can ping intel with the artemis device. Plus his squad shows a bit of personality. Vale’s smart and seems to have a thing for sangheli, tanaka’s the traumatised survivor and buck, well it’s buck and he’s just plain awesome. 117’s team consists of chief being sullen and broody like a sulky kid, sure he’s always been quite quiet, but now he just comes across as burnt out and crippled by the loss of his little ai girl. And the other 3 members of his team are like cardboard cutouts that have tape recorders on them looping messages of concern for chief. I mean you have girl with sniper, other girl with no distinguishing characteristics at all and chiefs bro buddy also with no character.

He’s another boring human character, and we would have much preferred playing as the arbiter or half jaw in a game.

and yes, master chief didn’t have much character in 1-3, but that’s also what made him interesting was because he was one of the last Spartans, and was mysterious. He was cool inherently and didn’t need much else.

Now Spartans are kind of same old-same old

Locke just isn’t special or interesting, and no amount of character can change that.

nightfall was joke, bland and boring just like locke

The Chief was the ultimate action hero. Lone wolf kind of character who doesn’t see the need for talking unless the situation warrants a badass one liner. Locke is just sort of… There. And you never get the sense that he’s the baddest dude in the galaxy.

Yeah man you caught us, take your PC BS somewhere else, Maybe it has more to do with his acting in Nightfall the fact his character was utter trash. His delivery was so bad they changed voice actors. Yeah I’m sure they changed it because he was SOOOO busy, just like Dinklage wasn’t replaced with North as ghost in Destiny because his acting was crap. If Sgt. Johnson was still alive and took up half of the campaign we wouldn’t have heard a peep, why because it had nothing to do with race a good character is a good character. But I will tell you right now there’s a damn solid reason that Locke was infact black and 4out8 Spartans were female just to check off boxes on the new PC checklist I guess we now I need in games so everyone feels welcome.

I find him to be a missed opportunity. He was advertised as being a reflection of John and he was set up to be analytical and critical of his mission and the organization he works for, but turned up being another bland, uninspired character in the Halo universe. Am I still a racist?

Really, whether you like it or whether you don’t it’s hard to call it bland.

I think Locke may be a step in the right direction.

God why do I even bother
