Comments so far are more harsh toward an unreleased series then the already ready release halo infinite.
Just because the series isn’t set during the games and books doesn’t mean it will be a terrible show. Look at the witcher. Successful series but it’s not set in the games.
Cortana isn’t blue. It’s another idea for her character model. Fans in the past have been curious about a cortana with normal colours. It won’t effect the games story.
Master chiefs voice. Who ever thought he was going to have Steve downs voice set the bar too high for them selfs. He didn’t voice him in legends or forward unto dawn, however both were still enjoyed by many fans.
I’m looking forward to the series. How it turns out no one knows because, well no ones seen it yet. So why the criticism before release?
She is blue though. It’s like Isabel. There is a blue haze even around where she has skin. I was taken aback but I wouldn’t say I hated it.
Probably because a general audience might see her as an animated or cartoon character if she was all blue like the games rather than a CGI rendition of a person.
I don’t think it looks very good, either visually or narratively. Visually, it looks super fake. Maybe that won’t matter once you’re engrossed in watching. Halo has always had a slightly shiny, toy-like appearance (just slightly), but I don’t think it translated well to this live-action series. I’m not sure if that’s what they were going for, or if it just accidentally looks that way.
As for the story and dialogue, of course, we have only seen a trailer, but the writing doesn’t seem great. There’s also the matter that this appears to be a retelling of the Halo story. It’s like a new story reusing the same elements. I think that’s totally fine, but it does take away some of the thrill of watching it for me, and for casual fans, it might be very confusing if they don’t understand that the TV show is a separate canon from everything else.
If this wasn’t Halo, I would think that it appears to be super generic, based on the trailer. Sure maybe the trailer is just not very good. So I’m not writing it off as a loss yet, but it was a disappointing debut.
I think the showing was generally lackluster in comparison to the other live action stuff we’ve seen in the universe (particularly Halo Landfall.)
Personally I didn’t take issue with Cortana’s appearance, Chief’s voice did come off pretty weird to me, but my biggest beef by far is the alternate timeline. I’m just not interested in multiple Halo timelines.
After my raw reaction being that of excited confusion, I sat back and let the cannon differences sink in. I know this is not canon, it’s a “silver timeline” story, which I think is the way to go. Going with a full direct adaptation would have probably caused more problems with established cannon. We can all sit back and watch this, knowing it’s not going to have an impact on the main story.
I don’t mind the Cortana model, she looks good, more like the modern take on A.I in the Halo universe, like Isabel. I think they could have had more blue on her though.
Having a human raised by the Covenant is strange for obvious reasons, but again, Silver timeline. And honestly, kind of makes sense. Truth, having a reclaimer fully under his control would be invaluable.
Now we don’t know where they are taking the story, but I wonder if the Master Chief will start to question orders, like in Halo 5. And in a future season, we could get a proper Hunt the Truth. Mike Colter could come play Locke, he‘s already in a Paramout+ series, Evil.
Imagine if this series did what Halo 5 didn’t, and actually follow the marketing of Hunt The Truth. That could be really good. But also a few seasons down the road,
I generally like new/alternate timelines. They’re fun and give the creators a lot of directions to go in, I just feel this isn’t it. Slap an “Alternate Timeline” sticker on something and the creators could have done literally anything, such as a Spartan duo wearing Yoroi armour in Feudal Japan.
I think people are more traumatized rather than hating it critically; i was harshly treated, threatened and berated for liking halo 5 mechanics so who knows what else people get trashed on for all things halo… I know myself, I am not alone in that. It evokes alot of trauma.
Other than that it really does seem like a decent production and people should have patient ears and eyes.
Idk why anyone would threaten you over a video game. So stupid. Halo 5 mechanics, multiplayer were fun to play. I wont argue that. I had a good time with that game. The story is where I exit stage right, or jump off the train. AKA a hot, steaming pile of garbage.
I honestly don’t know what they were thinking. And apparently they don’t either since they’re trying to completely erase the fact that Halo 5’s story even exists with Infinite. Slaughtering the majority of their characters, tearing down the majority of what they built, and seemingly starting fresh.
Just kinda seems like 343 is lacking direction to me and just coming up with stuff to come up with stuff, to keep Halo alive. Despite all the complaints, I’d argue Infinite is their first step in the right direction in a while.
I couldn’t agree more. Though, I would take a step back; writing is very hard especially when working with a mythos that already had a beginning, middle and end. I think setting the second trilogy 100 years later or something like that, would allow more maliability.
If they don’t have any good ideas, they shouldn’t feel pressured to make a game. Several other game companies have either abandoned series or taken a step back because they couldn’t think of a good storyline. Disregarding the multiplayer, Halo 5’s story screams to me "343 just wanted to make another Halo game without any clear direction and kinda just jumped into the first idea suggested. Not to mention how misleading they were with their game trailers.
They built up this whole entire Locke vs Chief storyline with the Chief going rogue and falling from grace, etc. and that was virtually non-existent. Plus I’m not gonna lie. Chief’s obsession with Cortana has kinda bothered me for a while now. Like Bungie just barely touched on it, but they kept it in control. 343 took it to the next level to the point where they’re making Chief abandon the UNSC and do his own thing because his little AI friend has gone rogue. Just seems really cheesy.
I also couldn’t buy " chief falling from grace" either. He just saved the galaxy from being flood food and the world knew it. J just didn’t have the suspension of disbelief to not wonder how he would not have superior pull and authority over the UNSC. Any who could do what he did would never have have to explain themselves?
He goes Rogue because he realises pretty early on that somethings not right with Cortana and he should probably be the one to deal with that; not Locke. I question why the UNSC objected so much to this. But, given the events of Halo Infinite Chief trying to talk her down is not an unreasonable plan. Given that they only beat Cortana with another Cortana this wasn’t a problem that could be solved with Nukes. Yes, he’d obviously like to get Cortana back but that’s the easiest way of defusing the conflict.
The fans are getting upset. What the still don’t realise is that the TV show isn’t for them. They’ve spent their money. The show is for ‘new fans’, just like Infinite is. All hail the holy $$$
No idea. I’ve read into what the ‘Silver Timeline’ actually is, and it’s just a non-canon retelling of events that don’t directly change the game or book canon.
As for the the trailer itself? I thought it was pretty good. Master Chief’s actor sounded close enough and the visual effects looked passable, especially if the story is good.
