Why Add Every Gametype Other than DOUBLES

I don’t understand. Doubles has been a standard and cherished (permanent) playlist as long as I can remember. Why is 343 considering Griffball and other silly game types before adding Doubles to the permanent, ranked, set of playlists in Arena? I personally love Doubles and miss it dearly.

Because nothing 343 has done with halo thus far makes any sense

Doubles isn’t really more variety, its just more slayer. I think this game has enough slayer based modes right now. The game needs more objective and teamwork based modes, like oddball, grifball, assault etc…but those are supposedly coming this month.

But seeing as how doubles only requires 4 players instead of 8 I don’t see how it would thin the population across the game too much.

There was a chart that showed the percentage each playlist was being played and doubles was toward the bottom.

Just a thought but I think they only like competitive playlists, which is why they haven’t added any fun playlists including a social slayer type. Doubles was never that competitive, many people sold 50’s in Halo 3 in doubles just abusing the fact that it wasn’t competitive. You never saw other playlists like that, doubles was just camp and get the power weapons. I’m sure 90% of the people who played Halo 3 and only had one 50, were a 50 in doubles.

Their logic is reasonably sound. They want to add in new game types that simply do not exist eg all the ball based modes, or infection or whatever, first. I follow it well enough. They need to push out game modes that both improve diversity and give more power to the custom games community. Doubles should probably be added in all fairness, though. Even if for a limited time only.

Thanks guys, I guess that makes sense. Can’t say it makes me feel any better about it though. I’m amazed that Doubles isn’t more popular since it’s been a mainstay since Xbox Live. It’s incredibly fun and competitive to team up with a buddy and strategize. Feels like sacrilege to see SWAT in the permanent playlist but no Doubles… bummer.

The reason here is very simple, if they only say ‘‘here is doubles for a weekend’’ it’s not going to be popular, some doubles players didn’t even knew that doubles weekend existed. I’ve played halo since 2002, I have every Halo game and I only play Doubles and Multi-Team (3v3v3v3). I don’t want to wait this playlist or try to play for a weekend because there is no reason to learn the maps or power weapon spawns because they are going to change them every ‘‘doubles weekend’’. I’m waiting doubles to be permanent because then I’m able to practise without thinking it’s going to change or get removed. I’m not going to try these ‘‘beta versions’’ of Team Doubles. If i want to play Halo I play Reach until 343I understands how important Doubles/Multi-Team (3v3v3v3) are. Also I play Rocket League due to 1v1 2v2 3v3 options.

Well said.

Doubles isn’t a gametype so much as it is a variant, and it was already there since launch. 343i are choosing, for some reason, to not make it a permanent playlist. My guess is that they want to avoid overcrowding with playlists and spreading the population too thin, which is only a valid excuse if doubles isn’t a popular playlist.

And as for “every other gametype”, 343i creating Ball Mode has absolutely no effect on the lack of a dedicated, full time Doubles playlist. They can release a Doubles playlist whenever they bloody like (which is why it already appeared in the rotational playlist a couple of times) where as Griffball, Assault, Fiesta and other modes are not in the game in any way. Not even in Custom Games.

And btw, I don’t know if you frequent the forums or not but new gametypes (actually new gametypes, not variants like Doubles) are probably the fandom’s number 1 request at this point because the game is getting stale with only 4 unique gametypes in Arena (compared to orevious Halos, that’s pitiful- there used to be immense variety). 343i are smart to put so much focus into releasing completely new modes, especially the “silly” ones- since at this point, there is no relaxing, fun and yeah- silly- gametypes to play at all in the game such as Griffball, Infection and anything from Action Sack. These gametypes are as much an essential part of a true Halo experience as the competitive aspect, which Doubles is but a part of.

Without a doubt, if the two playlists in any way affected eachother (which as I explained, they don’t), the right decision to make would have been to create more Social experiences (Griffball specifically).

What you need to do to get a straight answer on the Doubles matter is tweet an active 343i employee what they have in mind for the playlist. I suggest Quinn, think he’s answered these things before.
