Why 343i always ignores Team Doubles

Hi, I’m here to express my concern about Team Doubles.

2v2 has been an important part of halo’s multiplayer since Halo: Combat Evolved. On Halo 2 Double Team was added on May 2005. Double Team consisted of an even mix of slayer and Objective Based Games, and was ranked. In 2007 when halo 3 was released 2v2 was part of the launch playlists, called Team Doubles. A limited playlist based on Team Doubles titled “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” was introduced on Thursday, February 14, 2008. This ran until February 18, during which Bungie monitored certain actions performed by players and gave out Recon Armor to the winners. When Halo: Reach was released it was also one of the launch playlists, this time again as Double Team. After Halo: Reach this classic playlist wouldn’t be the same.

Doubles is my favorite playlist by far and in every halo I wanted to reach the highest rank as fast as possible. After Reach 343 Industries took over and in my opinion did a good job with Halo 4. My biggest concern was that Team Doubles was not part of the launch playlists. That really surprised me since it was on Halo 3 and Halo: Reach at launch. Of course I enjoy other playlists as well but Team Doubles is definitely my all-time favorite. Eventually Team Doubles found its way to Halo 4 but it took 2 months and 29 days post-launch and it wasn’t exactly polished. For example the ordnance system made the playlist very unbalanced and added too much randomness to it.

The best thing about Team Doubles is the fact that you only need one friend to form a team. The small team size makes it very personal and in my opinion more competitive. Halo has always been about teamwork and when you want to include that while keeping it as personal as possible, 2v2 is the way to GO!

When the Master Chief Collection was released it suffered from various problems, I think everyone would agree. Yet again what bothered me the most wasn’t the early difficulties but instead the absence of Team Doubles. It took 6 months and 12 days before it was added.

Certain playlists are very important to some players and classic Halo playlists like Doubles should never be added post-release. I’m happy that halo changes and it should, but it doesn’t mean that classic playlist should be ignored. Some halo players are very dedicated to specific playlists and it’s sad that some expected classics aren’t included. At first I wasn’t going to say anything but now that Halo 5’s playlists have been revealed I had to because Team Doubles is STILL missing. I felt the need to say how important this playlist is to me. I just hope we’ll get a good Team Doubles playlist as soon as possible.

I have a theory that the playlist team at 343 suffers from memory loss. Doubles has proved time and time again to be loved and popular in every single Halo release. The fact that we have to once again whine and scream at them to bring Doubles back as a permanent playlist for Halo 5 is insane. You’d think they would have caught on by now.

I could not agree more, Doubles has been a staple since CE. Not having the Doubles playlist at launch, is a big disappointment.

343 knows what they are doing, and they know whats best for Halo 5. Unfortunately, I have to point out that you dont work for 343, and you dont know what is best for Halo 5. They will add doubles eventually, that’s not even a question, it does not have to be available right away just because you want it to be. If that is your reason for not liking a game, then I feel particularly sad for you.

And this is coming from someone who loves team doubles, and pretty much everything in Halo. I dont get angry if every single aspect I want isn’t in the game, I focus on the stuff I do enjoy that is there and patiently wait like an adult for the rest to come.

starts slow clapping agreed

Can’t be 343 still have team doublephobia in this day and age >:(

I think one of the reasons is because more people request more players than less. Like how they went up to 24 max players for warzone. They know a lot of people want doubles but there are probably more people that want bigger player count playlists.

Maybe 343i just wants players to try their new playlists first, then they will add custom playlists. Another reason could be since 343i is really trying to bring back the competitive side of Halo, they want all Arena playlists to be 4v4 (emphasis on team play).

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

It is odd that it’s not a launch playlist, considering a large amount of people expressed their frustrations about it not being there in MCC. Eventually even making it a ranked playlist in MCC. Very odd if you ask me and i haven’t played doubles since Halo 3.

This still does not excuse the fact that they have amnesia with the popular Halo playlists… Every… Single… Game…

And your post is a double edged sword…

Yes, let’s trust in their judgment as they keep disregarding their day one fans.

i love team doubles

Doubles, unfortunately, has never held a high enough population to justify keeping in when the hoppers we limited in the number of possible gametypes available.

When it has released, it never stayed long.

As for right now, it’s true default maps are a bit large for 2vs2 play, so we need Forge to help choke off sections or create new maps from the ground up.

PS: Doubles only works on those smalls maps of Halos past and those same maps rarely played well for 4v4.

Mind citing numbers for me?

Wait, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach… When exactly did it “never stay long”?

Halo 4 was a great game in and of itself. The problem was that it was not the kind of change the majority of the Halo community wanted. In my opinion, I believe that Halo 5 has many welcome changes and very few unwelcome ones. Most, if not all, of the controversial issues that stemmed from Halo 4 have been either removed or altered to make it better, such as better maps, spawns, weapon balancing, no loadouts, on map pickups, and equal starts. I’m sure there could be a few more examples.

There will always be people who complain about something, its the people who are ignorant enough to believe their own opinions outweighs those of the many that cause issues.

what exactly is a small map?

IMO map sizes would be like:
(these are not the case for every single map but more of a general guideline)

small: warlock, midship (maps that you can see one end of the map from the other side)
med: Lockout, haven, ivory tower (maps that you cant see one side to the other, but would still be to small to have vehicles)
large: blood gultch, sidewinder (maps that generally require vechicles)
