We haven’t seen much of him to make that kind of judgement but no one can replace the Master Chief and I think part of the story is going to be Locke and ONI finding out exactly what the Master Chief can really do

I don’t believe that the intentions are for Locke to replace chief. For all we know, Spartan Thorne could replace chief. (Of course, no one can replace John-117). The same concept applies to Sgt. John Forge from Halo Wars and Sgt. Johnson from Halo 1-3. These are just keys players in the Halo Universe. Just my opinion.
…But saying that Agent Locke sucks is a bit much. He’s going to be a beast. He has to be, other wise 343 would get eaten alive from the fans.

I think people are taking issue with the way it’s voice actor handled the interview and implied “yeah Locke will hunt down and maybe take down the chief” I have issues with that too

So if I’m primarily playing as locke is this still halo 5? I understand why 343 didn’t release the title halo 5 at first they wanted to call it some things else cause your not playing as Chief primary character.They are going to move away from the Master Chief and what I’ve seen of 343’s past characters it doesn’t look good.Im not bashing 343 I just dont understand why they have to get rid of everything bungie created.As a halo fan I’m worried and angry at the possibility of 343 insulting my intelligence and say chief is the hero when I play as mostly Locke. When bungie created master chief they model his personality after Clint Eastwood which is why he was so cool and mysterious. I will wait to see how locke plays in but if Locke is a primary character and played most I will not be playing / buying halo 5.

We do not know enough about him to make the judgement of whether he sucks or not (IE: We know literally nothing about him other than that he’s the first not-white FPS Protagonist in a very long time which I find refreshing)

I don’t know about him, but I would certainly be feeling more positive if Locke’s VA hadn’t gone into that interview acting like he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. Also what’s up with referring to his character as himself? That really rubs me the wrong way. I do believe that Agent Locke and “Mike Coulter, television actor” are extremely different people…You certainly don’t see Mr. Downes swaggering around and referring to himself as the Master Chief or presuming he can speak for him - despite the fact that he is the voice behind on of the most popular video game characters of the last decade.
Halo has a lot of characters that already exist that deserve more development at the moment: Blue Team, Lasky, Palmer, Majestic…I have zero interest in Locke because to me it makes no sense to add in a completely new character right now (and hype the crap out of him as some uber-badass) when the story is already fraught with underutilized ones.

so if he said “Yes,Locke is a main character and you get play as him in some missions” or something neutral in that respect it would not have rubbed you the wrong way?
And I am ok with a strong female lead as long as it is an option…as in along side a male lead also playable
