So my friend decided to start a co-op campaign last night and invited me in. He was the host. While we were playing the first level, another friend hopped online and we were going to return to the lobby to pick him up. (just like the other Halo games). Out of nowhere he says “Surprise!!! I am right next to you”. “Wait what?? You actually joined in progress(JIP)?? In a Halo game??”
On top of that my friend hosting the game says, “Wait you are still in the game?”. I respond with “yes what do you mean?”. He was the host and left to the lobby to get my other friend into the game with us. It didn’t effect my game at all. So not only is the H5 co-op campaign JIP, it also wont end if the host leaves!! Absolutely beyond impressed and clearly the campaign also seems to be running on dedicated servers. Only way it could get any better was if the co-op campaign was open to the public matchmaking. But still this is by far the best setup in a Halo game for co-op campaign. Very well done 343!!
Yep! The drop-in/drop-out stuff is pretty smoothly done. I’m a fan.

I seriously was beyond shocked. Many other games have this but it is a feature Halo has never had. I am also pretty dang sure this confirms the co-op campaign is on dedicated servers.

They said everything would be on DS and this being the first co-op campaign I’ve been able to play with my friends back in the states, it is absolutely run on DS.
Oh btw I think the story kicks you back to character select if whoever is playing Chief or Locke leaves.
I’m impressed with the Dedicated Servers for Campaign, it’s just a shame that there are no rewards for repeating it.

Really? Where are you playing from?
Even though I waited a week to pick up Halo 5, I am so glad I did. I have been loving this game. Cant wait to fully dive into the co-op campaign tomorrow night and over the weekend.
I liked Halo 4. Unfortunately the co-op campaign in that was not JIP. Still a great co-op campaign.
